I had a state police officer on Lake Hopatcong try to give my friend a ticket for not having his license on his back. It was 95 degrees, he was shirtless and actually had his vest with his license on the back of a seat, plainly visible. When the cop told us it needs to be "on your back and visible from all directions" we both looked at him and burst into laughter. He then realized he was an ignorant prick.

your license must be displayed and signed, they won't bust you for having all your licenses in one holder, I was checked years ago and I handed the CO all my licenses and permits, they were fine!

I hang mine on my backpack, which goes on my back!

I keep mine in pocket inside my coat.

I have lost it once this year pheasant hunting , but a couple of cool guys found it and returned it to me at Black River.
I have lost them in the past as well when they were on my back.

I have come across GW/CO's and presented it from my pocket and it really wasnt an issue, politely explained when/if asked (only once or twice).

Nowdays, with all the stamps and permits and stubs plus the personal info on it, the security of these documents outwieghs the need to display it.

And as someone said above....
My duck hunting coat doesnt have loop thingie for it, and I am NOT punching a hole in a $250 waterproof jacket. My upland coat has one...and it fell out anyways, so now it gets pushed through a few times and rubberbands as well to secure it.

Most of the time, when you are just getting "spot checked" stamps/permits are the big thing, as long as you are legal and have ALL your stuff, and not doing anything shady, I dont think evena gun-ho rookie yahoo GW/CO is gonna write ya for that.

after loosing mine this past year logging in my treestand i pin it and use tie wraps to hold it onto the clothing.... what i do carry inside my holder is a twenty or fifty dollar bill. this always comes in handy and i consider myself never broke to go hunting!!!!!

I keep mine in a mesh pocket in my hip pack. It's plenty visible and easily accessible.

I've lost my license while wearing it on my back, requiring me to go back and search for it, a few times.

Also, when it was on my back, it would catch on the tree when I would move.

I also refuse to put a hole in my gear if there is not a license attachment flap, because, if the tag holder catches on something- ripped gear !
