Before I call the CO's for an official opinion.....

Legal or not ?

Get into you stand load up with Buckshot (Permit Shotgun area)
No deer come in.
At dark you lower your remote Fox call to the ground, Switch your ammo to "legal" nite Coyote/Fox loads.
Start calling..

I say NO because you can't have the other ammo with you.
You would need to get the other ammo out of your possession.

This is being tossed between a few of my friends that are too lazy to return the other ammo to their truck.

Having a light attached to your gun is not Illegal for deer seasons, until you USE it after hrs.

Well ???

I agree with you. You cannot have the buckshot in your possession.

One possible solution might be to drop the buckshot to the ground in a bag or whatever that you could not retrieve from the tree - it's no longer in your possession. You could still get in trouble if you carry it out with you and are stopped by a CO.

You are right on the ammo thing, cant have any ammo not legal for what you are hunting in your possession.

The light on the gun is a risky one, I thought you can NOT have a light attached to your gun for any type of hunting including night hunting, I thought this was silly but it is NJ. If you can then best bet is to get a QD mount and a quad rail or something. It can be enough for a ticket just to have a mounted light while hunting deer to get into trouble. JMO

No way, you could just shoot the buckshot at night and say you just found the deer. We thought about it too only we were considering goose hunting until 8-9 am then load up with buckshot for the march out. Just not going down that path. Same thing could happen during pheasant season/permit season. Carry both ammo's and switch out going in or out. That will never fly.

Put the buck shot in a bag and throw it as far from your tree as you can, in the direction you're going to walk out. Now, you do not have buckshot in your possession..Nothing a CO could do.

I agree with you on the ammo. As far as having the light attached to your gun deer hunting. I don't know. But might make a co a little suspicious of you though.

can you even have the buckshot in your vehicle????

I don't think you can.
Yea, who says ? Let someone try to tell me what I can and can't have in my vehicle. [eyeroll]

That would be the same as saying that you couldn't have field points in your vehicle while you're hunting in the woods.

Leave the bu kshot in the tree in a zip lo k bag
You have to remember the other half of the equation as well. You can not have fine shot in your possession while deer hunting. So you would have to make a trip to the truck and swap ammo, the other thing they could get you on is having your fox caller while out deer hunting (no electronic calls for deer in NJ) even if you don't have deer sounds on it you would still be in possession of an electronic caller while deer hunting.

the laws her are stupid as written just like you can have a muzzy and a shotgun in a tree at the same time if the seasons overlap but you can have a bow and a gun if they overlap[spy]
