If any of you guys are going bear hunting and you are thinking of getting it mounted please take a small tape measure with you. Who ever will mount your bear would love to have the four (4) measurements so they can order the right size form, they are:
1. From the end of the nose to the inside corner of the eye.
2. From the end of the nose to the base of the tail.
3. The circumference at the belly.
4. And the last measurment would be the circumference of the neck behind the ears.

Most outfitters and guides will skin out the bear and then it can be frozen. But do not salt and freeze it because it will create problems. Try to remove most of the blood and dirt from the hide, and get it to your taxidermist asap as bacteria will still work on your bear even if frozen, just a little slower. If anybody has any questions feel free to call me before the hunt and I will answer any questions you might have. 732-449-5950

Rich, great advice thank you. That 2nd picture of the bear, where was that taken, and how big? I like the mellow look, bears are more passive then we all think

That was taken at my old shop and it was shot in Canada est 80lbs, personally I don't like the nasty open mouth mounts.

nither do I, but on my first bear I had that done on a 3/4 mount, my rug also has the open mouth, my NJ full body mount is just a calm passive look, and I like that the best. The advice you gave is 100% correct, when the taxidermist in canada came, he did the measurments before skining it out

You guys should also check out the taxidermy catalogs on line so you have an idea of the pose you would like, that way when you show up at your taxidermist the both of you will know what you are looking for.Dont forget to call me before you go on your hunt if you have any questions at all.
