Ain't nothing quite like a good 'wink-off.'

... and Ingalls, that BETTER be beer spit!

YouTube and various posts. Read a lot and figure out which way is best for you and the tools you used. I have done 3 in the past few years and best for me is to skin out the skull and eyes the best you can with a knife. Then, suspend the head into a large pot of simmeriing water for an hour; remove and scrape off some flesh; repeat several times. Do this outside and be safe with the propane burner, etc. Key is to keep the antlers above the simmering water and off the edges of your pot of water. Once somewhat clean, I use fresh water with a few drops of Dawn detergent to do the degreasing. Others have used beatles to eat away the flesh, but they only work when it's 55 degrees or warmer and they smell!

I also burried a skull into my mulch pile and wrapped the antlers in aluminum foil and let sit until June. Just put chicken wire around the buried head so it won't walk and no varmints will get to the antlers. Of course, this takes months and you have to wait until the spring for the insects to do their work. I have good results both ways...one is a long process and the first only takes about 4 hours.

Have fun.

I been using beetles and they are great. They smell a bit but get all the meat off. Use sal soda and simmer it for an hour then pick all the meat off. After all is off time to degrease it. Use dawn dish soap and ammonia with a fish heater keep at 120 degrees take a couple days then whghten it. I use mag carbite and peroxide and they come out great. Its a lot of work but fun.

I just did this for the first time on a 8 pt i got 2 weeks ago. this is what I did
first remove as much as possible skin, jaw, extra meat, ect.
I bought a 21 quart pot from wal-mart for like $25 perfect size.
Heat the water up inside then move it to the out side fire.
put head in and boil all day. take out every hour or so and scape stuff off.
the longer you boil the better.
P.S the head really stinks when you first start cooking it so at least start it outside, I finished the cooking inside.
Then it s down to scraping all the little pieces of flesh off. A screw driver works well.

know for whitening, there are two ways to do this, bleach and hydrogen peroxide.
many people say dont use beach because it makes the bone flake, but I didnt have enough peroxide so I used beach anyways. I used 30% bleach to 80% water, and it whitened it up in about 12 hours or so. And it didnt get all flaky like people say.

I will post pictures in a little bit so you can see how it came out.
