Since the season has been rather slow in my normal spots. I decided a change of scenery was in order. It might change my luck too.
I walked along the hedge row planning to watch the second of two fields. As I got 3/4 of the way down the first one. I noticed a buck on the back treeline of the second field. He was a great 8pt with wide main beams. Then out from behind him runs this buck. At 265 yards, they were to far to shoot so I watched & belly crawled about 40 into a drainege ditch for cover. A third buck, a small six lead the group into cover.
Fast foward two hours. The field is starting to come to life with does and a wide 6pt. With only 15 minutes left of legal light. I thought about tipping over the 6pt at 156 yrds. But I held out. Hopeing the big bucks would step out.
They read the script! Out came the small 6 followed by Brutus and then the wide 8. Seeing all the deer on my side of the field they ran over.
After a short prayer, the largest buck closed the distance to 176. With the last check of the range finder and being in the prone position. The gun was steady on my day pack and the crosshairs on his chest.
At the shot I heard a thud & new I made it count. After the smoke cleared, all that stood in the feild was the big 8 and a few does. I waited till 5:30 walked out & got two buddies to help track.
After ten minutes I was holding my trophy.Sugar, What do you think he'll score? hint: G3's are both 9 inches
Sometimes all ya need is a change of scenery and " A Little Bit Of Luck"
A Little Bit Of Luck never hurt.
