Hey everyone,I have a question, I have a Beretta Silver Snipe over under given to me by my neighbor. It is a beautiful gun, it works so well for pheasant hunting and waterfowl hunting. I dont have access to any other gun or money. Would it be a bad idea if i went hunting for deer with a over under using OO buck shot with no scope. Im not even sure what the choke is, probally modified since it is not changeable and is like 40-50 years old. Any advice? Should I even bother?

It should say on the barrels what they are choked. You shouldn't have a problem shooting buck shot out of it

i have a beretta over and under and it shoots buckshot very well on the barrel it should have intials on it like mine say ic/m stands for improved cylinder on top and modified on bottom

just grab a box of buckshot and im sure up to 40 yds your good to go

I think I am more afraid to go out in the public woods this year after reading posts here...[eek]

There seem to be many people who have not yet shot their guns that they will be using to harvest a deer,(or bear)...[spy]

Are people really that clueless?? I have gone thru about 200 rounds this year to make sure I am ok

If it is a 12 gauge and cant find the choke on it you can get an idea by doing the dime check. A dime will not fit in a full, extra full or tight choke. Will just barely fit in a modified, will fit loosely and have room to jiggle it in improved cly or cly.

i know what my gun does.how come theres always this buckshot trivia.my old savage shoots the same thing. and what does this guy have to do with being unsafe if his shotgun can hold a good pattern at 35 yds he should be good.how come its always the gun or ammo.how bout just being safe and a good shot.

some of you guys are clueless.you cant expect buckshot to shoot the same all the time do you?do you shoot 65-to 100 yds with buckshot too?remember its a scatter gun not a rifle.you can group rifleshots not a shotgun.you probably put a scope on a shotgun to right.

[up] Wow, that's a great neighbor! Anyway, my Uncle had a Silver Snipe. It can have just about any choke combo in it but my hunch is mod/full. It is probably about 40 yrs. old and back then everyone used this combo. I would confirm it by going to the Beretta Website (www.berettausa.com) and going to the support section. They will tell you how to identify it or you can call them. Beretta's are known to throw very good patterns out of the mod/full chokes. I would always recommend plated buckshot. Since you have two barrels, I would mix it up. You can use 00 in one and 000 in the other.
