I talked to two butchers near me in NY state they will do bears but they charge by the pound. OMG can you picture shooting a 500 lb bear and paying $500. To get it butchered then to get a mount or a rug done. This could be a very expensive hunt.

tanning kits at cabelas cost 25. for a large deer.2 or three should cover the average bear.most bears that will be shot if their lucky will only be up to 300lbs.if their lucky!!!!!!!!!

most guys on here think their gonna be the next record breaker.i can tell you from people i know who have been tagging the bears for a few years now, most will average 100 to 3 an change. they arent all 400+ and everyone wont be lucky enough to get one,but keep your hopes up!!!!!!!!!!!!

tanning a bear hide commercially runs between 25UP TO 50.00 PER FOOT FOR BEAR AND DEER HIDES ARE BETWEEN 35 AND 50 DEPENDING ON WERE YOU SEND THEM THAT SAID AND DONE BOTH BEAR AND DEER HIDES NEED TO BE FLESHED AND STRETCHED BEFORE SENDING THEM TO A COMMERCIAL TANNERY FLESHING A BEAR IS NO BUNDLE OF JOY

I am saving $500. and doing all the butchering myself. I do a dozen deer a year and a large bear is gonna take time, but really how tough can it be.
I'll keep everyone updated when it happens:)
