A few weeks back I remember seeing a posting that went into pretty good detail on how to do a European mount, but I cannot find it. Can someone please give me some quick instructions on how to boil the head and what to add to the water? I know the easiest way would be to dig a hole and leave it for a year, but I cannot wait that long. Thanks guys!!

Practice on a doe first. Skin head , take lower jaw off. Cut out eyes, get near all meat off. Next take a large drill bit a scramble the brains and get them out. Now boil some water in large pot. Simmer the skul for 1 hour and pick the rest of meat off. Next whiten it and the clear coat

I use a turkey fryer burner and an old pot to fit the head in. Make sure you skin the head and pick off any meat you can. Put the head in the boiling water with a few cups of borax. The borax helps to loosen all the meat and brains. Every 20 minutes or so pick out the head and clean off any loose meat, eyes, brains, etc. To whiten the skull...DO NOT USE BLEACH!!! Bleach will whiten it and quickly, however, it will also break-down the outer layer of skull and you'll soon see it flaking a few months later. Instead, make a paste with clairol's basic white powder and clairoxide 40. You can easily get these products at any beauty supply place (I get at Sally's Beauty Supply near my home). It is inexpensive and is the same stuff that you get in a euro mount kit...just cheaper! Mix the paste and apply to the skull...leave the paste on the skull overnight or until dry. Brush off the paste and you can re-use the dried powder...simply add more clairoxide 40. This will create a very nice natural white skull...and will not peel over time. Good luck and hope this helps.

get a skull bleaching kit from any outdoor store (gander, cabel.)$19.99 directions are in teh box, verry easy to do. they come out fine.on the back of the skull cut off just alittle bit of bone to open up the brain area and they fall out when boiling.

Do it outside, simmer the skull and not boil it; be patient; keep the antlers above the waterline when simmering, use fresh water at the end with some Dawn detergent to help with degreasing it. Also, catch a few homemade videos on youTube for ideas. Have fun.

that is why you put the borax in there deadbolt. The borax actually pulls all the fat and 'grease' out of the bone. Do it whatever way you want...just know what works
I think I know which way works just fine...Ive tried all methods and that is far from it. Remove the brain and it will take that much more grease out of the bone to preserve the skull longer and minimize yellow.

Ive done it a number of times. Skin deer as best as possible. simmer in hot water with a little soap (outside). Take a hose up the spinal cavity hole and blow any gray matter out. Soak skull only in peroxide over night, rinse. apply a clear coat if you like.
