Finally got out after hearing so many success stories and tried making my first mock scrape I have the camera on it but it's only been two days gonna check it end of the week. For those who have done this in the past, do you get more bucks or doe visiting? I have a ton of doe in my one spot and a nice buck every once and a blue moon, my goal for doing this was to get more bucks on camera. Another question, where do you guys put food out in relation to the mock scrape i have a salt lick getting a lot of attention but with only one trail cam it's one or the other so i used it on the scrape. Can i put feed next to the scrape or will that mess it up? Any input greatly appreciated!

i tried making a mock scrape about 5 yards off my corn and apples, but it was never touched and i see alot of bucks on my camera that came to my bait but didnt hit the scrape..i just made a new one about 50 yards off so we will see:)...Last time i made a mock scrape i used that tink spray, this time i used fresh doe urine and buck urine so hopefully that will help as well

You have to put the scrape where the bucks are travelling. Next to other scrapes and rubs is a good spot. Next to bait is definately not.

Don't be afraid to put more than 1. I have about 20 going now on multiple properties. Some are made by me, some are made by other bucks that I "took over"

Don't be afraid to piss in it either. It works.

I made two Mock scrapes this year. One on a good trail neer a known doe bedding area. I have pics of bucks and does "checking out" the scraoe, but not "working" the scrape.

The second I placed in a main travel coridor between food sources. I know the area sees activity. There are a few rubs, and a real scrape nearby. I hung the cam over the scrape and got 1 pic of 1 doe that passed at about 15 yards behind the scrape-no other activity in 6 days-so I abandoned that scrape and reloaced the cam to the "real scrape"

(purpose for the second "mock scrape" was there were no good trees near real scrape to get up in-hence I tried moving the deer to a nearby spot with easy stand access.--didn't work[confusedagain]

problem is i dont have any other scrapes in my spot which is suprising i have a couple rubs and bucks do for a fact travel through see my last zone 14 post i got a monster on camera but it's very on and off. So im starting from scratch figure it cant hurt

I made 2, and the first one a monster came by, rubbed and scraped about 20 yards away. The rubs were on trees bigger than 6 inches, and they were big effin scrapes. He never came back to freshen them [confused]

The second one got another big bucks attention, as I could see very deep 5 inch tracks with spread hooves leading up to and away from it.

It's all about making one where deer are present, look for deer trails, tracks & other tell tales and follow it up with realistic sized scrapes and appropriate scent. I'd use estrous urine right about this time.

Oh, and food isn't extremely important(with scrapes). I learned that when I put a corn pile by one and not a single deer so much as looked at it.

This is my opinion, silly as it may be. Think of scrapes as road signs, we use them while we're traveling to tell us where to go. And think of corn piles as fast food, we don't set up a picnic in the middle of a road, do we?

when I moved my food pile 40+ yards away it was eaten within a day.

I put a dripper on a natural scrape 10yds from my stand. Same thing the buck came right past it to the corn and never touched it. I did see a doe go over and inspect it tho. She nosed it then stepped in it a few times and left.

what you are trying to do with a scrap is one make the res buck mad. if the buck is a sub dom and you use a dom odor you may chase him out. if you have a dom he will either take the scrap over if doe are hitting it or he will make scraps near it and tear the area up. alot of the time he tells you I mad but guys do not refresh it for 3 or 4 days and the challenge goes away. it is best to make a scrap up wind of a good natural scrap and hunt it if you see he is on or around it. make it in the morning to try to make him day time. if you can get doe on it it is better. but remember when you get a drawn out rut a lot of doe are going to get real spooky as they are not in and don't want the bucks chasing them.

scrape a area and then go easy on rattling and grunting also works nice if you like calling and he is bedded close.

@ *******....this spot is really weird it holds A LOT of doe's and the bucks come and go i got some nice shooters on camera but just passing through they are not coming in consistent. I searched and found some good size recent rubs but no scrapes so im not sure what to do at this point like i said this is my first attempt so we'll see if it gets visited or not i wish i had someone to show me what and where to make this thing im from a family where no one hunts but me so im learning everything by trial and error....might not be a bad thing but sometimes it's nice to have someone show you how to do it the right way.

A buck will set up his area, he will try to be in a area where there are doe, but what will happen alot of the time the doe go to the area when they are going into the heat mood. we all have seen it just maybe not thought about it. on a hard rut like we see most of the time about nov 1st alot of the doe disappear out of the area that we was seeing them. what they did was move to the buck. this happens alot when the doe numbers are higher than bucks ratios. when the numbers are more even it seems that the scrapes lines are more, and the doe stay around when they come in. I had a few doe in a area up till a week ago and they was gone this area does not have a lg but in it. it looks like they move a few hundred yards away at least that is what the test sites with bait are telling me. I have another area in Salem that the doe was not there until a week ago. they showed up when the scrapes started. I had mock scrapes in both areas the bucks did not pay attention to the one till about 2 weeks ago. the dead area with little guys never really did anything except for tracks smelling the scent no digging or wetting.

If your doe stay then there is a buck there or will be. in another week we may start to see day time cruising. the bucks will only be checkin the hot scraps with doe. he will pick up a scent and ground trail it till he make contact with a doe if it is doe that he sees and she is not in he may chase her alittle then get back on the trail till he finds her. we all have seen this bucks nose to the ground beating feet across a field or going thru the woods sounding like a pig short grunt every other step.
