You know its taken me a very long time to get the o.k. from my mom (as I live with her) to hunt in NJ mainly because my father preached about the numerous times he had bullets whiz by him......in a treestand all because of the "yo buck" mentality of hunting in NJ. And honestly, my first month of hunting has proved to be exactly what he made it out to be. Mainly because of ignorance on both ends of the spectrum, hunter or non hunter. On one hand you have a typical NJ hunter that doesn't take hunting seriously in that people don't respect the laws. And on the other hand you have people who don't want to share NJ's resources and cause problems in the woods, as if they aren't full of hunters with firearms and deadly weapons. Either way, I can't wait to move to Texas.

Ya know, I don't know what it is about you guys, but you seem to have some really bad experiences in the woods. Now, I don't bow hunt so I'm not in the woods starting in Sept, but come small game and waterfowl season I'm out there an awful lot and have never had the trouble that you guys complain about. I do feel like a lot of the complaints are out of north jersey though, are the woods up there that congested?

I'n just fine with people thinking our hunting is not so great. WHat I like even better is the look on their face when I show them trail cams or the animal I've killed. They just seem to not understand how we could have such good game here in NJ... Let them keep thinking that way!

great stay out of NJ.hunting sucks here..i hope more people leave.

I saw a hunting show on NJ,the guy shot a maybe 100" buck with a crossbow.. Atleast shoot a decent buck with it. but then they made a nice stalk on a slammer. Whatever, i show guys from other states pics and vids and they sh!t..

Well you need to think about how everyone else views us...most people know of jersey as newark, camden, the NJ Turnpike...they dont know we are one of the most diversified states in the country...we have the shore (oh god theres another whole issue lol), we have the hardwoods, we have the pine barrens, we have urban areas and we rural areas...we have it all...most people just dont know tho....the author is a jersey resident but he probably hates jersey like some of us do and poses his article as most people see us, not to defend us....oh well dont have to worry about too many nonresidents then..

I agree, I grew up in Warren County in the Northwest part of the state. I love it here, but when I went to college at Rowan everyone from South Jersey thought everything north of Trenton was like Newark and Elizabeth. Its a perception that people have mainly because they only travelled the turnpike and not some of the pretty country roads from this part of the state.

This is a quick little comment I sent to the editors at F&S for whatever its worth.

"The fact that I am writing this letter to an actual editor is surprising because I was always under the pretense that an editors main goal was to correctly, fairly and accurately ensure what the author is trying convey. As the editor you not only managed to completely fail at your only job but in doing so you alienated a major part of your New jersey readership including myself. You should be stripped of your position for letting this garbage get through the editing process. "

Well Done. I will also write to the editor. I am really disappointed in the article.

Their lead-in picture for the article isn't the most complimentary either:
Gotta read this article. That pic is pathetic. Playing on the Sopranos, Newark Gang Banger thing. Fine, good, stay the hell out of Joisey! More deer for us. All good.

Marone' a mia!

I agree with Withmygunnar this state is a joke and we as hunters need to stop shooting the little bucks and button bucks. the state state needs to make a larger limit on rack size. But that will never happen from either side it makes me so mad when i see little bucks killed and buuton bucks. state would be alot better and all the gunn clubs need to stop the attuide if its brown it goes down that is the dumbs thing i have ever heard.
Can't argue with THAT !!

Whats funny is, even with all of the gun clubs shooting numerous dinks, and people shooting young bucks- we STILL have plenty of decent deer walking around.

The number of big bucks may be dwindling, but it goes to show you that IF we could get the number of buck tags per hunter reduced to 2 per year, impose very strict antler restrictions, shorten gun season and do away with unlimited antlerless, we would have OUTSTANDING deer herds throughout this State.

What is the link to the article, I could not find it on the F&S website.

Thanks,'

I actually thought the article was a very good representation of the areas ive hunted in Nj. Planes, Trains dogs people all kinds of noise stinks and sounds and everything in between. Its the most populated state per square mile in the country. Doesnt stop me from hunting. Its not the same type of hunting I grew up with hunting Northcentral Pa but its hunting non the less. What else can one do? I work in Philly and hunt the fringes there and its the same way. You either adapt or give up hunting
