I have hunted a secluded piece in pike county for a about ten years now. When i started out there were decent bucks and does all over. The past five have been horrible.Lucky if i see a doe. This all came about after they implemented the antler restictions. To me it seems that the hunters are eating up all the doe permits and shooting all the does to put meat in the freezer..Not putting in the effort to harvest a legal buck. Therefore not replenishing the heard.Im actually thinking of skipping this year. jmo

Depends where you go. Suburban, farms, big woods. Suburban and farms have some good deer totals. Big woods are a whole differnet beast to hunt. I would avoid them at all costs unless you have done some serious scouting.

Where I bow hunted in Tioga and Potter Counties 25+ years ago the buck ratio must have been 1 to 15 does. I don't recall seeing anything big, and every buck I took was an immature yearling.

I am optimistic from what I have heard from PA hunters. I look forward to going back again now that they have statewide AR's and have effective doe harvest allowing the habitat to recover from years of over browsing.

It used to be pretty easy to get permission to hunt private land, but I expect that has changed as the deer population declined and farmers have fewer, but really nice bucks on their land.

I hunt PA. Its a 2 hr drive from my house. My first year I killed a nice 8. The second year a fawn doe, and last year a little 7 pt. My Dad killed a nice 8 last year as well. It is a lot of work but worth it. Also for me to stay over night I stay at a bed and breakfast, which is pricey. I want to try and find a local with an apartment over there garage, etc that we could rent instead. Over all we look foward to it every year.

I reserve a whole B&B in Ohio for 10 days. The per person cost is very reasonable. We have exclusive use of home including kitchen and washer dryer. Each hunter has their own bathroom so no wait for shower. All but two of us have our own bedroom so if one snores the rest can sleep!

The only downsides would be, no wifi for Internet and the decor is...what shall I say...feminine and cute? Definitely not like a hunting camp.
