First year using the ThermaCELL. Sat night I had a buck feeding down wind from me about 35 yards. The bug's came out so I turned it on. 10 to 15 min's later he is bedded down now downwind 20 yards. & he jumps up & snorts like mad & takes off. On Sunday I have the ThermaCELL on & I had a three doe's come in downwind she stop's about 50 yards away. Pick's her nose up & didn't like what she smell's & turn's away . Then about hour later two doe about 160 away coming in stop snorts like mad & walk off. I see the smoke from it & it has a smell to. Do any of you guy's that tree stand hunt see this. Thanks Shawn

The fumes are hot and rise, so unless you are on the ground I doubt very much they'll smell it. I've had bucks right underneath me milling about and never got busted One was a wall hanger.. Didn't have my EAB yet either.[wallmad]

No fun getting eaten alive by skeeters, Without my Thermacell and Savannah suit I woud and always have waited for colder weather. I'm out there to have fun and suffer the wrath of Mother Nature, not those little flying \Mother ^#@*ers.

All this talk that they don't smell it or it don't bother them. How many of you tried putting the thermacell on the ground away from you to come to this conclusion??
Just because some of you had deer come in with it running means nothing! Deer can only smell scents that are coming from their up wind side. So... if they smell the thermacell most likely they are going to smell you. Or they come in up wind, hang around and dont smell anything. Because.... thats it, they are up wind of your location.
I'm not saying that deer smell it or not, just saying its pretty hard to know unless you've tested all variable's with it. Hunt the wind and you wont have to worry, even though this damn wind in Jersey seems to swirl non stop so your screwed regardless!!

Deer smell everything. Like stated above is logical, it sometimes is dependent on what that deer has been exposed to. Also, sometimes deer will let things slide on a given day at its discretion. You don't think they smell your strap, or buckle or a part on your bow? Let's say the Thermacel don't smell, maybe the plastic of the actual device does.
the way i see it is, if they are downwind of you and close by they will most likely wind you thermacell or not. for early seaso i use it for most of the sit and shut it off for the last hour just in case...if the wind is blowing in a direction where you think they can smell the the thermacell, im sure they are also smelling you as well
