First year using the ThermaCELL. Sat night I had a buck feeding down wind from me about 35 yards. The bug's came out so I turned it on. 10 to 15 min's later he is bedded down now downwind 20 yards. & he jumps up & snorts like mad & takes off. On Sunday I have the ThermaCELL on & I had a three doe's come in downwind she stop's about 50 yards away. Pick's her nose up & didn't like what she smell's & turn's away . Then about hour later two doe about 160 away coming in stop snorts like mad & walk off. I see the smoke from it & it has a smell to. Do any of you guy's that tree stand hunt see this. Thanks Shawn

I've had deer around me a bunch of times while using the therma cell and only once did I see a reaction that I thought was the therma cell. A young 7 pointer came in up wind but was real close and he started sniffing then jumped back and started to shake/quiver. He looked around shook his head a few times and then walked off. I could have shot him so I wouldn't say it cost me an opportunity but it was the only negative reaction I could attribute to the therma cell. I guess it was a strange odor or a reaction to the airborn chemicals. Pretty cool to watch I almost started laughing. It was like he had an allergic reaction to it.

i treid mine out last week in the blind and did not like what i was smelling so for the hell of it i had some red neck earth scent and poured some on the pad and then all i smelled was the ******* scent .. i dont think i will be useing a thermalcell deer hunting any more i just dont trust it if i can smell it the deer can and a mature deer knows better

I can smell the thermacell at times. If I am able to smell it, you can be sure that the deer can smell it as well. That being said, I still use mine in the early season, particularly when I am hunting areas that are near houses or get a lot of human activity. In these situations, I don't beleive that the smell puts deer off and the advantages of having the insect repellant far outweigh the disadvantages in my opinon.

They also sell pads that come pre-treated with cover scent or you can do what smitty did and add some of your own. How effective that is, I'm not sure but I would think it should help some. Paying attention to the wind direction is never a bad idea either.

There are two scents for the thermacell? Are you using the earth scent?

how many guys thats say the smell will not bother them have had a good mature 4-5 year old deer come in to 10-20 yards with the thermicell on ?.. better yet how many harvested a good mature deer ? even better how many have harvered a 125 inch or beter deer with one going[smoke]
