So sorry to hear, but glad no one was home and everyone is safe. A few years ago I came across a company called Door Jam Armor. After watching their videos, especially of the one with a police battering ram hitting the door 12 times before it caved, I bought three for all my doors. No matter the size and grade of your dead bolt, most of the time it's a 1/2" of pine that it slides into and easy enough to kick in (#1 way break ins happen)

Kids broke into 5 houses 3 weeks ago in my neighbor hood, and also a few vehicles. House directly accros from me got hit, they put a lawn chair up against the house rite in the driveway and forced open a window, they took off with a few jewlery box's and that was it. Police recoverd most of the stuff a block away in the school playground.

I can't imagine coming home to that situation. Your wife must be beside herself and you all must feel so violated and angry. But don't let them win. It's YOUR house and don't let what they did make you feel uncomfortable in it. Put some better locks on the doors, the windows and maybe even think about some type of security system, even if it's just a big dog. I'm sorry that you lost some personal possessions, but as others have said, it's a blessing that nobody was home when it happened.

Dam that sucks, I am only up the road. But am hearing more and more about this stuff. That is an upside to having a loud dog that sounds bad ass.

suks joe, sorry to hear and will be keeping an ear out. Everyone around is getting hit, I'm thinking of moving the trail cam to my rear fense. Dam punks will take anything thats not nailed down. House down the street got hit and another this week.

Kicking in a door, or worse yet just walking through an unlocked door gives you little to no chance to get to a firearm. With the door armor, I guarantee no one is kicking in my door.

I also added window security film to the windows that would be the easiest to break in from, such as the porch and windows on the side of the doors. It's not 100%, but does cost them time and added noise for us or a neighbor to hear them. It may discourage them enough to go to another house. Breaking a window if home at least gives you a little time to grab a gun - it's also a little more dangerous for the criminals and I believe the reason why most go to the door first.

It's also suggested to keep shrubs low and stuff such as chairs or large pots away from the house. Most of the time they want to be quick and unseen.

Walk around your house and see how easy or not easy it would be for a thief to get in. Crime happens everywhere and anywhere, hence another good reason for CCW(concealed carry)

come home at 4pm, thought the wife wanted my to re-trim the front door. take a better look, it was kicked in. nothing is out of place. go into the master bedroom, draws are open, hope chest flipped.
punks got the jewerly box and some cash. looked like a 30 second job. in and out.
