Thought about buying one a couple years back but didn't have the money to justify it so I went with the Caldwell shooting bags instead. I think I picked them up for $20, very portable and take up very little space. I use them at the range with all my guns with good results.

Absolutely love my lead sled especially when sighting in slugs. My shoulder thanks it to. I put down 2 25lb lead bricks on the sled and its works like a charm.

Just remember use it to help sight in the gun\scope but it still wont remove human error. You still have to take some shots without it but at least you know the gun is set and anything else is the person squeezing the trigger.

My father has one its awesome.. We sighted in our slug guns and muzzleloaders we got them zeroed in.,, With out taking a beating. You can really squeeze the trigger and hold on your target.

does anyone have any pics so i can see how it works?

Me too. a Pair of shooting bags is less than $10.00 and will allow you to place the cross hairs on target with a solid rest and squeeze off the rounds until you are all dialed in[up]

Caldwell shooting bags
I was looking at these in the midway catalog - they come "unfilled". So I am guessing I need to fill them with sand? If so can't I just use a burlap sack or something with sand? Just curious is all. As for the Lead Sled I dont shoot rifles and therefore I cant justify the expense -at this time (see wife)-, so I may have to look into the bags (or burlap + sand):D

Maybe you can buy them unfilled, not sure. The one's I bought were filled already. You can certainly make your own too and it would probably work just as well. The Caldwell one's I have are made of a heavy canvas material so they're pretty durable and the spots where the gun sits are made of a soft material so it won't scratch the finish. Just a couple of advantages over a DIY burlap sack.

Don't use sand. Rice is what you want to use.

For a DIY project, find some old canvas shot bags. They make nice sandbags. Fill them with coarse sand, rice or charcoal (the kind used in old pool filtration systems.) If you don't have access to canvas bags, a cut-off jeans pant leg will suffice with the ends sewn shut. If you want to get creative, run a stitch with a sewing machine across the middle of the pant leg. Add sand and sew each end up to make a split bag to rest under the buttstock or the forend. You can get pretty creative when on the cheap.

I have yet to find any use for the nylon bags lead shot sometimes comes in. The canvas bags I'll use are on the lower right. These work well.
