I can tell that there is some concern about the status of the bow perimeter bill. Although I don't have a crystal ball to tell me the future about this bill (just a Magic Eight ball for those that are old enough to remember, but I keep getting different answers[mad])here are some things to keep in mind.

We've spent nearly three years educating legislators about the merits of the bill. Based on the bill's merits, two years ago we got it passed overwhelmingly in the assembly and by voice vote overwhelmingly in the senate. Senator Codey wouldn't allow the bill to be heard and it died last year.

We resurrected the bill this year and due to efforts to educate the assembly and senate, along with a new senate president (Sen Sweeney) and speaker (Speaker Oliver) we were able to get overwhelming support in both houses and the bill was sent to the Governor.

The Governor now has a bow perimeter bill, which was amended to take every safety precautuion and also supports sound public policy. It will help to provide better access to deer populations for purposes of culling, which will help with forest regeneration, habitat improvement, reduce deer/car accidents, minimize the ability for Lyme disease to be transmitted and allow hunters the opportunity to enjoy the wilderness and put food on their table.

Again, it took three years to get the bill to the Governor (actually, the bill has been around for a much longer time and was initiated by the UBNJ) so let's have faith that the Governor will recognize that a lot of smart people believed enough in the merits of the bill to make sure it got to his desk.

It's a good idea to call him and remind him that the bill might be on the bottom of one of his paper piles :D and to pull it out and sign it.[up]

Keep the faith - but make the phone call.

The law is 45 days or the next date the senate convenes. Usually the senate is off for the summer, but the state's finacial woes are keeping them in Trenton this year.

It looks like August 14 (give or take a day) would be the 45 day mark.

Why would he sign it it would just piss the antis off I think hes better off politically just letting it slide past the 45 day mark I will call again tho today. Keep them coming to much hard work was put into this bill for it not to pass[up]

I do remember the magic 8 ball, really dating ourselves on that one.
I recently spoken with Sen. Sweeny at an Iron workers 100 year anniversary celebration we both attended. We had worked together on the New Garden State Racetrack back in the mid 80's and I would run into him quite a bit at the State House,so he was easy to talk to.He does get it about the sportsmen in the state coming from a blue collar background. He is also a Iron worker Business Agent and has daily contact with hundreds of men that hunt and fish as well,so he has a better understanding of the issues facing us.Many of his men told him how important Sunday hunting was for them ,when they have to work all week.I know a lot of the politicians just want to get re-elected and don't know much about a bunch of issues, that's why we have to keep hounding them every chance we get.I used to watch the lobbyist down the State House camp out by different Senators or Assembly persons office door on session days just to make sure they could get their point across when they would walk in.There was days you could not walk the halls for all the people waiting to talk to there representative. If you guys could see how the system works first hand, you would understand much better what is involved trying to get your agenda pushed through, its not as easy as some of you think.I think Ant and NJOA has done a GREAT job for the limited time they have been in existence!Keep up the good work and keep calling the Gov.!

PLEASE Keep Calling

I can't tell you how frustrating this is that it is still pending at this point [wallmad]
I know most would be glad to have it pass by the time running out and it not getting Vetoed, BUT I want a solid signature of passage this Bill and All who have spent YEARS working to get it to the Governors desk deserve that much [up][up]

I'm getting a bus trip going to head down to Piney's place

I totally agree that the NJOA has done great work. But, come on, it takes a few seconds to sign it. It would be a tremendous betrayal for Christie to veto or pocket veto this bill. [wallmad]

I know we are all suppose to be nice until the thing is signed, but this is getting ridiculous. For some reason, Christie, a Republican the NJOA fought for, and almost all hunters no doubt voted for (and not one anti), is going to kill this bill that was passed through a Democratic Legislature against all odds. When is it time to get pissed?

I know that some here may find this suggestion unethical since it involves bait:-

Has anyone thought of wrapping the Bill around a Twinkie [rofl]
