"I can pick up my compound bow 6 months from now and hit a bullseye at 25 yards on the first shot."

Rackmaster made the above quote in another topic, but it really caught my attention, as to my style of practice bow shooting, and I was just wondering if anyone does the same thing as I do?

I've always subscribed to practicing what I call the 'One shot cold' theory, meaning that, in bow hunting, I am often in a stand for hours, sitting still, with unused muscles, and all of a sudden, I HAVE to make the first shot count, no warming up, no taking a few shots to regain my form, etc.

More than several years ago, I started practicing this way. I never take more than one shot, and wait about an hour till my next shot. I was able to do this every day when I lived in Vernon, as I had a 34 yard range set up in the back yard. One shot at 34 yards, without any warming up, and wait at least an hour before I picked up the bow again. I use a 9 inch paper plate as a target, with a 3 inch bullseye, the objective to always hit at least the 8 inch inside ring of the paper plate. I can hit the 3 inch bullseye about 90 percent of the time practicing in this manner. It works for me, I was just wondering if anyone else practices for hunting in this manner?

I have a simulated range in the woods acrossed the street from my home. Slugman killed his deer from my simulated range. I have a loc-on, a ladder stand, a climber and a ground blind.

We shoot turkey, coyote, several deer and a bear. Al set at different yardages.

Get bored or have about 15 minutes, walk acrossed street and shoot.

When I get my homestead started this year, I will have archery, shotgun and rifle range on my own property.

Oh yea! It isn't in NJ. I would be an outlaw.

I never stoped ( OK, for the surgery I had to, but normally I wouldn't) year round I love my Bow... and with out the peep & pins I have to shoot more...I need to work on my forum & my release....I like to Practice every other day, just to give me a brake and a good way not to learn bad habits.

I've been shooting at least once a week for the past 3 weeks. And, a little bit before hunting season starts, I'll climb up some trees with my climber and practice a few times this way as well.

I try to shoot all year long.
At least twice a week more during the 3-D and elevated before the Bow seasons.

i shoot 3-d in ny all summer or i will take out my flu flus out and squirrel or ground hogs or just stump shoot with judo pionts last year i found a great spot to bow fish on the passic river i cant shoot enough,, my poor guns never get used

normally I shoot quite a bit from different positions that I may encounter during hunting, but last year I didn't shoot a single arrow until lunch time of opening day and the guys I was with couldn't believe I didn't practice yet that season

First, I pack all my sh!t in the truck then I continuously back over small branches representing my bow.. Thats how I get ready...:D

I live in a small neiborhood right outside of Trenton. Our houses are about 10 yards apart. I put a target in the back corner of my yard and shoot in between my house and my neibors house. For long shots I shoot right from the sidewalk all the way into the back of my yard...about 40 yards. Ive been doing it for so many years that no one seems to mind.

I try to shoot 50-75 arrows at least twice a week all year long

I practice shooting by making sure everything is still right on and tight. Then i start level at 20 yards, then i'll extend out until i can consistently shoot an 8" circle at 60 yards (i don't shoot at deer that far but I know its there). Then i'll shoot out of my bathroom on the second floor window into the back yard. I can shoot out to 30 yards but will place the target randomly so i'm practicing shooting elevated at different distances cause deer don't wander out at 20 or 30 yards they like to come out somewhere's in between. Then out of my den on the first floor i can shoot downhill out to 45 yards. Randomly i'll do like like wink man was saying and take the only one shot groups. I really like to do this after getting off the tread mill to simulate having to hike through the woods or climbing a tree or something that would make you winded. After i feel pretty confident shooting (a month or so) i'll switch and only shoot broadheads (old ones that i've shot deers with) Slowly as the summer progresses, i'll randomly shoot with different clothes on that i wear hunting, different hats, different face mask, different gloves, etc. I always shoot with a full quiver on the bow less one arrow (like i do while hunting). By the time september deer season comes around, i'm a regular william tell. The other thing i do is make sure i keep shooting regularly during the season because its easy to get out of tune very quickly by hunting a lot. My favorite time to practice is either first thing in the morning or last thing at night to simulate when you're most likely to see deer. I'd rather be over prepared and feel confident shooting whenever than have to p [no swearing please] on a shot because i didn't practice enough. Of all my hunting equipment i probably use my bow the most.

I usually shoot 3-4 times a month at the Rockaway Range or I go to my friend's house and pop balloons at 30 yds. I don't start until Turkey/trout season is over.

I need to practice from my treestand with the safety harness on. When I got my buck this year I didn't hit where I aimed. I was lucky to get him. After the fact I realized the string hit one of the buckles on my safety vest.
