ive been waiting forever to get my first handgun and the first gun i decided to get was the xd9 about a year ago. (just guessing time) i later on when i found out i could carry in other states decided to get a 45. so i went about 8 months ago and purchased a kimber 1911 and the xd 9. last month i picked up my first gun witch was supposed to be the XD but i had a trip the next weekend and i wanted to carry for the first time so i got the 1911 witch is a really nice gun. but for half the price i guarantee the xd can take more of a ss wooping and keep going and never give me any trouble (yea i just jinxed my self.\) i actually have a bet with one of my friends he thinks ill break it in 3 months and the kimber is already back for work at the kimber shop. it just feels so nice smooth no trouble picking the top round of a full mag this gun is AMAZING i cant wait to shoot it. i am way more excited about this then the kimber but they are both different guns for different purposes and needless to say i need the kimber too i just have to have it.

as always, pictures and with tuns of ammo (about 2500 all boxes are full and about 500 rounds on the table) that means i have more money invested in ammo then i have in the gun lol

you waited a year and didn't get a 1911 or a Hi Power?
go back and read stuff before the pictures lol j/p

i have the kimber crimson trace pro. i just has a few small problems, once in a while i would get hit in the head with a spent casing and i felt the barrel rusted way to easy since none of my other guns rust and they have been there for years. i had rust on my barrel within a week. and i had a slid stop malfunction thats common with them. sometimes they put to big of slide stops in a the bullets actually activate the slide stop. i would like a 1911 in a different caliber too and as awesome as a 10mm is its to hard to find and i like to stock up lol.

I'm just funnin ya,I like old fashioned stuff,I know they are reliable and sturdy as hell, but I just can't fall in love with the poly/striker stuff.

my only 1911 is a 1991A1,GI pistol,I didn't know there were hiccups with the Kimbers.

there are alot of hiccup story's with the kimbers [ninja] i think they own like 70% (gunshop talk)of 1911 sales so with that many guns being sold theirs bound to be some problems. we will see how she runs after it comes back i dont spend 1000$ on one thing to often so when i do i expect it to be worth it.

This is a common problem at times in all 1911's. You can try modifying the slide stop with a bit of careful stoning to the area that rides and protrudes through the frame that's activated by the follower. There are a number of angles that it should have as well as the proper tolerance needed to be activated by the magazine's follower. Since it's probably a MIM part on the Kimber, I would simply replace it with a good aftermarket slidestop from Brown or Wilson if tuning doesn't resolve your problem.

Copied from http://www.sightm1911.com/lib/tech/reliability_secrets.htm:

Slide Stop
The slide stop is often overlooked in reliability work. Once in a while the slide stop will activate during a string of fire, locking the slide back even though the last round has not been expended. There are two causes for this. One is that the nose of the ammo being used in the gun will lightly tap the projection of the slide stop inside the magazine well, popping it up prematurely. The solution here is to lightly file back the projection where it is getting "bopped," but not enough so the follower doesn’t activate it properly after the last round is fired.

The second cause is usually an overweight slide stop. The "extended" slide stop is particularly notorious for this. The slide stop simply pops up from its own inertia as the pistol recoils. An extended slide stop is the answer to a non-existent question, and no serious defensive handgunner should use one (slide stop operation should be with the weak hand in a reload situation, not the shooting hand). So if you are tempted to fancy up your pistol with an extended slide stop, don’t. Some aftermarket slide stops are designed to be less bulky than the factory product. This keeps the mass of the part down and helps to prevent premature pop-up. A trick you may use to help prevent the phenomenon is to file a transverse groove with a small triangular file in the back of the slide stop where it meets the slide stop plunger in the down position. Any tendency for the slide stop to pop up is countered by the pressure of the plunger in the groove. If properly done, it should not impede the upward movement of the stop after the last round is fired when it’s activated normally by the magazine follower. If you want to get fancier, a Dremel tool can be utilized to grind a slight "dimple" in the slide stop at the same location, and it serves the same purpose.

Great! Nice pics!

Keep your powder dry!

My cousin just sent His Kimber Covert Custom 2 back to Kimber. He has multiple FTF's and a RUSTED barrel after 150 rounds through it. Do a google search on Kimber FTF's ...or Kimber barrel rust.....Its a common issue.

He paid $1250 for that gun. Kimber uses barrels in the white which are prone to rust. This was confirmed by Kimber. Kimbers are known for FTF's and rust.

For $1250 i expect the gun not to rust and i want it to go bang EVERY time i pull the trigger. I'll never buy a kimber. Nice XD...good luck with it[up].
