I recently got a thompson center black diamond off a friend. The gun has only been fired a hand full of times. My buddy couldnt get the gun shooting a group at a close distance and said I was welcome to try and get it to shoot straight. After looking the gun over i noticed that the barrel isnt sitting snug in the stock, and when the two screws by the trigger mechinisim are seated it seems like that causes the barrel to rise off the stock. There is a hole in the stock below where the stud for sling is but nowhere on the barrel is there a threaded place for a screw to go. The only thing i can= think of is that this is the wrong stock for this gun. any input would be greatly appreciated. thanx

IF you have the wrong stock check Ebay, etc. and you can prob. find one cheap.

The Cabelas bargain cave, etc. will prob. also have 'em.

This gun hasn't been made in a few years, but it is a SHOOTER!

And if all else is well and you just have a defective gun, TC is pretty good about making the customer whole...you may get a new gun, or barrel, or stock.

They once shipped me a new one, no questions asked!

Pics? ... I have a T/C black diamond & would be happy to chime in with suggestions, if you can post pic(s) to show what you've got.

Mine is the Black Diamond Millennium special edition (only available for 2000). Matte blued metalwork (sans iron sights), fitted into a laminated stock, & equipped with a Leupold scope and QR rings/bases.

An attractive package, and yes ... it's a shooter! ;) - but no different mechanically than any other Black Diamond.

Here's a picture of the rifle...

Here's a copy of the mechanical blueprint / assembly drawing I obtained from T/C...

The front sling swivel stud secures in the stock itself, it is not supposed to screw into the barrel.
Not sure what your "mystery hole" is, unless the front stud stripped out at some point & someone tried to resecure it in an adjacent part of the forend. [confused]

barrel is free floated as not to contact the end of the forearm. both of the ones, I've owned were accurate shooters despite having alot of play between the barrel and the end of the forestock.

not sure of the significance of the second hole, there should only be one.as someone suggested, maybe a flawed attemp installing the sling swivel?

From what you're showing it does look like the right stock.

You could call TC and email a pic. IF need be you could ship the stock to them and let them confirm.

The barrel is free floating. Maybe your friend was resting the barrel and not the stock when firing. Or was slapping the trigger instead of squeezing. I bought one off a site member and it shoots great. Just clean the barrel often between shots.

I've had a handful of black diamonds (still have 3 right now) and they were all good shooters. That stock is normal for the black diamond. They are very loosley floated barrels. I believe the reason is because the stock has some flex to it so they floated it with a big enough gap that the stock doesn't flex into the barrel while resting it or holding it for a shot. I can slap the forestock on mine and get the stock to hit the barrel due to the flex. As to the hole I believe that front stud was relocated either a factory screwup or your buddy moved it. I would pull the gun out of the stock and make sure the way the stud is currently mounted isn't contacting the barrel and creating a pressure point.

As to getting it to shoot a group, I've found all of my 50 cal black diamonds shot pretty good with 240 xtp in the green sabots over 90-100 grains of pistol pyrodex. That is usually the first load I try since it has proven accurate in several guns for me. Once I get it dialed in and shooting then I experiment with powders and bullets. One other thing I've found in my experience they shoot best with a #11 mag cap or musket cap for ignition. The 209 primers never shot as well for me with the same loads. Not to say you couldn't find a load that shoots better with the 209 but for me accuracy dropped of and I saw flyers so I don't use 209's in my blackdiamonds.

I have one and have had nothing but 10 ring at 50 and 100. The barrel is a floating barrel. I use 100 grains pyrodex 240 hornady 44 with green Sabot. I was using musket caps. Just switched to 209s . Great gun. Where do you live. North south central?

I had a black diamond a few years ago it shoot great I used pyrodex loss powder 100gr. And 250gr. XPT bullets it shot great never had a problem. The stock is a floating stock it's made not to sit tied to the stock that is the rite stock. The second hole is for a bipod.
