Got to my Zone 11 spot at 5:00 saw nothing and heard a few hens down in the woods. Had 5 deer within 10 yards of me.
It was about 9:45 when I decided to pack up & leave, I stood up grabbed my call & I decided to make 1 last attempt with the box call & out of no where I hear, Gobble - Gobble - Gobble. [eek]
I sit back down & look behind me and there he is, I see his red & blue head sticking up. (and I'm thinking to myself that this stuff only happens in movies) [hihi]. Anyway, I hit him a few more times with the box call & he answers me back.
NOW THE VIDEO CAMERA GOES ON.
MEANWHILE, there are 5 deer 5 yards in front of me staring me down. I knew it would be smart to scare them away so I tossed a stick at them & of they go.
So, he waks into a clearing & I could have dropped him right then & there at 20 yards. But, I didnt have the video camera on him. (had it on the decoys in front of me, not that I had to get in on video but I thought it was worth a shot) So, he crosses the hedgerow & gobbles & I answer him. He starts walking my way.
I get the 20 Gauge up, get comfortable & he starts to get near the decoys, he got in between the hen & the jake & then KA-BOOOOM. Flopps him over, I run out to make sure he doesnt go anywhere.
14lbs - 11oz, 5in beard. Not the biggest turkey, BUT I COULDNT BE MORE PUMPED UP. [up]
I'll post some pics later & I'll try to get the video on here if I can.
