I went to a local gun store and looked at the .22s handguns they had. The one that kind of stood out for me was the Walther P22. Since I'm not in-tune with handguns, I was wondering what you guys think of this gun as far as reliability, service, accuracy, and quality. And/or, is there another .22 that you would recommend.

What BHC Matthews does not make a .22? I bet if they did it would be the best!!

[rofl]

I have heard a lot about the Rugar MkII is it?

[rofl]yes your right, it most likey would be the best, as we all know they make the best dam bows on the market today!!!! why stop there?[rofl]

My first handgun was a Ruger MkII with the bull barrel. It's always been reliable and great for cheap and accurate target practice and plinking. It's 20 years old and never had a problem. Good starter pistol.[up]

I own a Walther P99 40cal and i love it. Must have put 2,ooo rounds through it without a problem or misfire. Very easy to assemble and disassemble. The P22 is basically a scaled down P99.Check out the website for Gun Test Magazine. They have no ad's or sponsers, so they give you the straight truth. They will judge a few guns side by side and tell what they think. If it's a piece of junk they will tell you the reasons why you shouldn't buy it.The only thing they only show you part of the article you have to pay to see the rest. But it's worth it it's saved me a few hundred $ over the years and only cost me about $20 for the few times I used it.

The Ruger Mk II is a terrific little semi automatic and can be had relatively inexpensively. I think Gander Mountain may actually be having a special on the NRA commemorative models for something like $239.

...and you can't buy it if you are from NJ, even with a pistol permit, unless you have it transferred to a NJ dealer, which makes it like another $75-100 (Pa. or NY AND NJ NICS checks, transfer fees, etc.)

but back to the original question:

Walther makes some fine guns, the only problem is they're not as common as some other brands in the U.S., since they're a German company.

For a common, U.S. made quality gun, a good auto is the Mk II. In fact, anything that says "Ruger" on it is pretty good.

I had actually forgotten about that JerseyBob. When I recently went to purchase a new rifle in NY State I actually had problems because I didn't have a NY drivers license, Notwithstanding that I had a NJ FID card. I would not have been able to purchase the gun If my dad, who is a NY resident, was not with me.
