Attention Spruce Run Anglers

On Wednesday February 24th at 7 p.m. the Clinton Township Council and Planning Board will hold a joint meeting at the Old Municipal Building, now the Public Safety Building to review and vote upon a settlement agreement that would allow the construction of a needless 10,000 square foot, three story office building by Echo Lane right on top of Spruce Run Reservoir. A passing vote on this issue will degrade water quality in the protected Highlands Preservation Area of the Township. This will also create a loop hole for future development in preserved wildlife habitat by breaching the 300 foot buffers established by the Department of Environmental Protection.

Please attend this meeting, call 908-735-8800 or email ssasser@hcdemocrat.com to voice your opinion.

If you can, copy the emails below and let them know where you stand!!!!!

Clinton Twp doesnt give a crap about Spruce Run. They sold out by letting that housing development put in along 31 right along the banks of Spruce Run.
Another gift left by the COAH. And then the twp modified the rules there to let the residents build swimming pools cause the residents were bitching. What do you need a pool for? You built your home right next to an f'ing reservoir! Clinton Twp.[down]

Just playing Devil's advocate for a minute - will the office building really degrade water quality in the watershed? Has it been shown in any study that it will? Clinton Township should deny the applicant the use of his/her property based on this reasoning? Would it be acceptable if a scaled-back design were approved, or should the property be left in its undeveloped condition, ultimately defined as a "taking"? If so, should some organization (TU for instance)offer to buy the property at fair market value to mitigate the "taking"? Just some things to think about when dictating the use of someone else's property.

Sierra Club is undertaking the investigation. They state that the builder wants to install new spetic here promoting more sprawl to an already burdened corridor.

The Township filed a basic conformance plan in 2009 with the Highlands Council opting into the Highlands Regional Master Plan preventing just such an occurance. Now thier actions make no sense.

Extensive surveys on run-off have already been conducted along the entire corridor by a noted author and speaker on Municipal Land Use Planning.

Well, if the Sierra Club, led by Jeff Tittel, is leading the investigation then I can imagine that the proposed development will be the absolute worst thing that could ever be built in the entire State, let alone Clinton Township. Just sayin....., though I sure would get them/him on my team if it was a NIMBY situation for me. Maybe the Sierra Club should buy the property.

boy those thick bushes on the hill right on 31 in front of those houses hold lots of deer i see them laying in there

Ever since they put those dumb houses up, I'm sure they havent been to happy waking up to my gunfire.lol. Seriously though, it was a said day when they started that development, and now this. WTF is wrong with this state. I'll be at that meeting.

I'm not happy about this news, but this project will probably be just like the Burger King at the Spruce run light, the Hotel off 31 and the other proposed projects, nothing ever happened.
If they put the building there, will I be able to park there and hunt on Sundays on that side of the res.?

This has absolutely nothing to do with the loss of someones hunting spot. It has everything to do with the Township "rolling over" and allowing another eyesore near a state park. Imagine being at Round Valley and seeing a bunch of town houses right by the water. Lets get together and keep out recreation areas the way they are.

GVS- I hope your comments were in jest. As mentioned above there are several uncompleted construction projects up and down this route.

it's strange> I sse it all over jersey, retail and office space being built when there are vacant buildings just around the corner. [confused]

People who bought those houses thinking they would have lake front property must have been upset when they realized that there is an ugly chain link fence preventing them from using the shore.

See William Honachefsky's and Julia Somer's editorials in this weeks Democrat for info on the Highlands Act.

Attend the meeting or at last write a letter.

This isnt about losing a hunting spot, I never hunted there. I hunt the property across the street. Makes me sick to see it, so close to Spruce Run. How did it ever get approved? $$$$$$$$$$$$$

LB- in the settlement they want to change the zoning from RC (rural conservation) to OB1 (office business)

Interesting- I posted this on several other fishing sites and the only feedback I have gotten is from this site. Proof that if you want to take care of natural resources, ask a hunter. [up]
