I’ve been asked to comment on threads that display animals posed in disrespectful positions. Although I would rather shy away from addressing the issue and avoid creating controversy I believe to do so would be a cowardly act on my part.
Surely, people are free to post what they want and the site owner and moderators ultimately determine appropriate content. So my purpose is not to “tell” people how to behave. I’m just going to give my opinion on posting photos of animals that are displayed disrespectfully.
Consider the following; there is plenty of evidence that points to hunting cultures having respect for the animals that they hunt. In fact, hunting is historically understood in the context of being a “sacred occupation.”
We’ve all been in homes where grace is said over meals. Grace is prayer that is a showing of thanks to God for granting humans dominion over the earth and the right and ability to sacrifice the lives of divine creations for sustenance.
Whether you believe there is a God, or have regard for the sanctity of all life or are simply content with the contents of a “happy meal” - keep in mind that we “hunters, trappers, anglers...” represent an honest endeavor and our treatment of animals whether “dead or alive” is a reflection of our respect for wildlife and the world’s ecology. In my opinion hunting, trapping, angling are as much practical as they are sacred.
I hope that you’ll give due consideration to these words before posting your quarry in demeaning ways.
