I am in Middlesex county and would like to know of any pistol ranges in my area.
Also can I go and shoot if I do not have a FID? I have my own pistols but I was curious whethere I would have to bring my own ammo since I can not purchase in NJ

why don't you apply for a FID?
I agree 100%... why limit yourself?

This has been debated many times on this site and I don't feel the need to debate it again.
My question was for ranges. Anyone know of any public ranges in central Jerz?

no true public ranges for pistols...but range 14 is about as close as you can get. i belong to Hagues range in south jersey. walk in or members..same as range 14

The closest to you would be the Bullet Hole in Belleville or Brick Armory and Sure shot which are both in lakewood. Call both ahead of time becuase I believe one of them requires frangible ammo.

I don't remember ever seeing that debate. Guessing you have some sort of disqualification that would make you ineligible for a FID (habitual drunk, drug addict, wife beater, or mental case)? That would also make you ineligible to own those pistols Capt ;)

I have a spotless record. Not even a speeding ticket in my backround. I just don't like the idea of them. I lived in FL for 8 years where I could purchase/posses/carry with no problems whatsoever. I still have the ability to purchase through another residence in FL and I am in PA often for work so I buy my pistol ammo there.
A FID is just one step away from forced registration of firearms which I am sure we are all against. Even this left wing radical is against that.

False:

You can go to Shoreshot in lakewood and pay a walk-in fee. No FID needed - just a valid DL.
You can rent a pistol if you don't have one.

Or Brick Armory in Lakewood - nice range, but limited selection.

You should be good to go with or without FID.

I knoww... same with my Range...but i thought he was looking for something free where he can just go and shoot...like a WMA range for rifle or shotgun...i may have misunderstood

I just don't like the idea of them
I dont think anyone does like the idea but not having one limits your firearms freedoms in this state more then having one does . If you dont wanna go through the simple process applying for it (getting finger printed and dropping off the application) then unfortunately you'll have to suffer the restrictions this state puts on a person who does not have a FID. Dont cut off your nose to spite your face kind of thing. But whatever you want to do. It just sounds like it would be easier on you to have one. Waiting for them to finish it is the hardest part.
