Sorry for the double post, I hit the wrong key. I hope no one bites my head off for this question, but I have heard you can ride ATV's on the ice at the lake. Does anyone know the rules for doing this? I know some guys are not the biggest fans of quads.

Not sure about lako hopatcong but I know you can ride them on Greenwood lake. Sorry I know this probably doesnt help you at all [ko]

I doubt anyone will tear you up on here if you're riding it on one of the big lakes. I have no idea if it's allowed or not, but the problem most have with quads is when they tear up our WMAs, ride through wild trout streams, etc. I have no issues with those who ride them legally, it's just that our state has so little land to ride on.

An older article but take a look at this link. The doc contains this wording "Mr. McCarthy stated he saw a disturbing article in the Lake Hopatcong Times and questioned if it is true. In an article on “Winter Lake Safety Tips,” it indicates that driving an ATV on state park is prohibited even on the lake. He stated he contacted the State Police at Newark Bay and they said that it was not true"

Hmmmm, any interest in getting a NJH ATV ride going possibly after the hunting season. A legal riding place is http://www.ridelosttrails.com/ in PA.

Yea i remember hearing about the guy that went in the lake on the snow mobile had to wait til spring to find the body and get it out

yup i speak for myself but i find no excitment in walking on frozen water let alone go on the ice with something even heavier

Yeah that happend a few years back. The man would ride from bar to bar with friends and he would come into a place I frequent. Heard that the police accused his friend he was riding with at the time of having something to do with his disappearance. Then in March they found his body in one of the coves. Damm shame.

I have never heard of the registration thing actually being enforced as long as you are not doing stupid shit. A friend of mine from High School died falling through Lake Hopatcong on a dirt bike at night. Nobody knew he was missing in the dark til it was way too late.. I fell through budd lake on an atv some years ago.. VERY COLD.. Be careful!!
Beezer, nice pics! Ice riding with the dirt bikes kicks ass. We used to change our tires in the winter to the screws and hit budd lake. It is alot of fun!
