Not as unusual as you might think depending on local genetics. We always have at least one or two piebald deer here. Last year we saw 3 regularly including a small basket rack. This year I only see a doe. Piebald are not true albinos, but they do have a recessive gene making them partially white.

Piebalds are cool! Only saw one while driving. Never saw one while hunting. If I do, it's going down [up]

I haven't seen a piebald deer in about 5 years. They are neat. I used to see one all the time in Florham Park, but haven't in a few years. Saw one once while hunting in another town.

Search this site for piebalds, lots of pics and threads.

I was told that generally, piebalds are a sign of inbreeding.

I have one that hangs out around my back yard (no hunting...)with white most of the way up the legs, and white about 1/2 way up the sides; it looks almost like an antelope.

I drove through Watchung Mt. Reservation a few weeks back and there was one feeding on the side of the road that was almost all white, except for some spots on its flanks.
