Were you  near Carson National Forest

Just North of it. Approimately 20 miles south of Chama.

Not sure abot Colorado... I never applied there. We purchased land owner tags and hunted PRIVATE land. Due to the economy we got a really great deal on the hunt.

I always hunted Carson national forest near the Jicarilla apache reservation.
We camped in the mountains and hunted the same Elk as the hunters paying big bucks for a Reservation hunt.
Only thing seperating us from the Jicarilla reservation was a single strand of barbed wire.

Very Cool!! That is a "fancy shootin iron"[up]
Did you load those rounds? Exactly how much 7828 are you using? Ever Try Hogden Retumbo out of it?
My brother in law lives in New Mexico. He has a small piece of land in Chama. he lives in The mounains above Los alamos. He has put us in for tags but he is picking way to hot of zones to get the tags. After looking at your photos, it might be time for me to do my own homework instead of letting the local do it[hihi]
CONGRATS ON THE AWESOME HUNT!!

No I never tried Retumbo. And YES I loaded the rounds myself and I'm usually reluctant to give out specific load data as my load may NOT be safe in everyone's weapon. You should always work your way up slowly to a maximum load flollowing loads listed in a published reloading manual. I'll send you the load in a PM
