Hunting Myths and Fallacies

I'd like to respond to the misleading letter written by Janet Piszar.

In her letter she states; "Removing deer greatly accelerates their proliferation". In typical anti-hunter style, the author offered no evidence to support the claim. She didn't offer any evidence because that would defeat her purpose, which was to mislead the non-hunting public.

The fact is according to an unbiased, 4 year study by conducted by 10 independent biologists, "hunting is currently the only feasible method of regulating deer populations on a large scale."

She also stated; "In the end, immunocontraception for wildlife will be the answer."

The fact is, while there is much misleading information in animal-rights publications about immunocontraception, and although millions of dollars have been spent on wildlife fertility control, there is no workable birth control for wild populations of animals. If a workable drug and delivery method is ever found, New Jersey would need to administer over 50,000 doses resulting in a minimum cost of over $55 million dollars annually. Why should hard-earned tax dollars be used for something that is currently being done for free by hunters?

The truth is hunting is the method recommended by conservation groups to control deer populations and immunocontraception is impractical, counterproductive, and absolutely unworkable on wild populations of deer.

Contraception does not work

Thanks Joe. We have to keep refuting the lies and putting the truth out there. If we let the anti's go unchecked more people are going to believe them.
