Hey Guys,

As many folks may remember I try to spend some time each year working on low cost semi-custom gun projects. Along those lines I did a lot of work of my Savage 210 last year rebuilding the factory stock into a nice semi-custom stock. ( here is the detailed thread http://www.newjerseyhunter.com/article53768.htm )

Along those lines I started to do a little more work on that same 210. Based on the positive interest I received from other members on the previous projects I thought some might like to see the current progress.

Here is the most recent updates I have made to the gun and a current pic.

1). Upgraded the Leupold VX-II 2-7x30 w/heavy reticle to a Leupold VX-III w/ B&C reticle.

2). Upgrade rings from weaver detachable to Warne Maxima quick detachable.

3). Installed Kevin Rayhill bolt lift kit, (reduces required bolt lift pressure and smooths lift.)

4). Installed Kevin Rayhill bolt handle, (The handle is 1/2" longer than standard to decrease bolt lift and to improve camming distance.)

5). Installed Brownell’s Steel trigger guard.

chartboy see you like the nylon stocks for my own info how come
OKB,

Actually, as you can imagine I much prefer a nice hand laid fiberglass/kevlar stock. Unfortunately, due to the unique massive size of the 210 action, the very large diameter of the 12ga barrel, and the large size of the magazine well there are almost no reasonably priced replacement stocks for the Savage 210. Currently the only dedicated custom stock being produced specifically to fit the gun is a McMillan stock which runs $800 instaled.

As you can imagine, I am not certain that is a justifiable price given the minimal accuracy improvement I would expect with the stock.

Now..that all being said...I do own another slug gun with a top of the line McMillan stock and also recently sold another I owned that had a custom Bansner Hi-Tech stock on it as well. Moral of the story, I have alot of experience with custom slug guns and custom stocks...and at this point I do not feel the need to upgrade the stock on this gun. (Not to mention I think it is sort of cool that I was able to do the work detailed in previous posts on this stock all by myself.)

OKB,

As a follow up to what kind of stocks I like....Here is what I believe is the best you can get as far as stock work goes....In fact I honestly believe that I am very unlikely to ever have the chance to own another gun with more beautiful work regardless of the price I could reasonably pay.[drinking]

Yes Maximus...while I realize that discussing custom guns, stocks and scopes might put you to sleep....Unfortunatley for you...the reality is this is a dedicated hunting website and that is what we do here!!;)

If reading about guns puts you to sleep you might want to reconsider why you were reading this forum, and in particular this thread, in the first place.

After all..just because you apparently don't like it doesn't mean that I should not have posted. This is especially true when one considers how many people have enjoyed similar threads I have posted in the past!

Thanks Jakes,

This was literally just pure luck and good timing that I was fortunate enough to have been able to steal that gun.

More importantly...(as far as providing the details to help anyone else get their hands on another)...The gun is a Keith Stegall custom Mauser. What made Keith so unique besides the quality of his work was the fact that he was a distributer for "Tessiers" of France. At any given point in time Keith had a few thousand dollars of the finest French walnut blanks in his basement that in hindsight, and at today's costs, would now be worth literally millions of dollars......(and the stock shown above was one of the best he ever laid his hands on!!!)

No just this one
We all realized that after your last post...Unfortunately for you, the only problem here is not with the topic of discussion..apparently it is one with you!!

Obviously, many folks here are interested in slug guns...just because you have no interest in them doesn't mean you have a right to censor the topics of discussions on this forum.[smirk]

Hi JC, I am looking into getting a drop-in fiberglass stock for a Savage 112 BVSS varmint rifle 22.250 but have no luck in finding a sporter stock to replace the heavy benchrest stock on it now. Any ideas? I looked into Bell and Carlson but they said it will not fit, also checked out the Carlos Hathcock model, apparently wont fit either. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Please...you didn't have to respond to the [sleep] either.
If you didn't expect anyone to respond to it why couldn't you control yourself and not post it in the first place?? Obviously, you felt that we should have to listen to your input this subject or you wouldn't have posted it in the first....Now that I have called you out on the relevance of it all you just back down into the shadows, (as ou should).

Moral of the story...If you got nothing to say...
