Anyone care to comment on how many issues I'd be causing if any with this:

When in ohio seeing family on a drive, I think it's legal for anyone there(including non-residents) to buy a CO2 bb pistol if you are over 18.

If that's the case, if I was to buy one there, drive it home and use it for plinking in the backyard (2 1/2 acres mostly wooded), is that something I can do here in NJ? Or how many different NJ laws would I be breaking?

I think the buying it out of state legally and bringing it into NJ is OK?

But then being in the same category as a firearm, towns typically don't allow discharge of firearms? even on your own property?

And then let me also ask about shooting pests - moles, rats. I vaguely recall people getting into trouble for killing an animal that got into their attic or similar.

1)You can't posses a loaded weapon within 450' of an occupied dwelling except with permission,2) depends on the townships discharge ordinance. 3) if legally purchased in another state you should be good to keep it in or on your property. 4) rats & moles are not covered under Fish and Game regs, but watch out for PETA types!

I believe #3 above would be a big problem. The OPs definition of “legal purchase” in Ohio has nothing to do with transporting the “handgun” back to NJ. I believe you’d have to go through an FFL for it to be legally possessed in NJ.
Better check the facts on that.

The 450 reference was to shooting animals not target practice. A bb pistol does not require a pistol permit in NJ. it is an airgun.

Unfortunately this is incorrect. Please remember to abandon all common sense and reason when assessing NJ firearms law.

NJ Statute 3C:29-1 (F) Definitions:

"Firearm" means any handgun , rifle, shotgun, machine gun, automatic or semi-automatic rifle, or any gun, device or instrument in the nature of a weapon from which may be fired or ejected any solid projectable ball, slug, pellet, missile or bullet, or any gas, vapor or other noxious thing, by means of a cartridge or shell or by the action of an explosive or the igniting of flammable or explosive substances. It shall also include, without limitation, any firearm which is in the nature of an air gun, spring gun or pistol or other weapon of a similar nature in which the propelling force is a spring, elastic band, carbon dioxide, compressed or other gas or vapor, air or compressed air, or is ignited by compressed air, and ejecting a bullet or missile smaller than three-eighths of an inch in diameter, with sufficient force to injure a person.

Take it from a retired prosecutor-DO NOT-bring back to NJ without a permit-- depending on the caliber and propulsion it will be a 2 DEGREE crime with MANDATORY 3 year jail term. research it first or speak to an atty

In NY State, even with their Draconian laws, you can buy a BB gun, or a muzzleloader for that matter, anywhere. They restrict guns that are traditionally used in the commission of a crime and those 2 gun types are exempt. I bought mine in Walmart. As for whether it's okay to possess in NJ, IDK.

Welcome to the peoples republic of New Jersey. You have no freedom here. Our laws are structured so, everything is left up to interpretation resulting in a permit of some sort. Remember, its all about the money.

Just my 2 cents here. I am not a LEO or a Lawyer. First things first....why would you purchase a pellet (hand gun) for rat or mole extermination. Guarantee, you wouldn't hit a single one. Why not just legally purchase a air rifle here, site it in the best you can and not advertise anything? Air rifle with a scope will serve much better purpose for( training your kids) to shoot. :cool1:

I advise you to consult a professional lawyer with this question. Only he will be able to give you a reasoned answer. In any situation that involves criminal liability, I advise you to consult a lawyer because joking with the law is never good for you. My brother once went to jail and served two years there because he was negligent. His life changed after that. It's a terrible thing when a person is rejected by society. I found a company that helped him out of that situation. Here is their website, erasethecase.com. The lawyers helped him get rid of his criminal past and start a new life.

I believe if you read the exceptions to the law in 2c:39-6 it states you can possess a pistol in your residence w/o a permit. Most people never resd the exemtions to the laws.

What others don't know they can't bitch about. Keep everything to yourself and you will be fine. If the socialists knew how many shoot off their porches and back yards there would be a new bag of laws outlawing everything. If you haven't noticed, democrats love to tell everyone how to live......
