I did a little trail camera experiment over the last few days. I set this on private property where no hunting is allowed because;
1) I didn't want them to disappear and
2) I wanted to have some deer activity for the cams, and where I hunt on public land would be useless for this.

I set a Moultrie Outfitter 5.0 infared camera up on the field edge, and in the field, on a 4x4 post, 10 yards away, I set a Moutrie M80 on video mode.

The Outfitter 5.0 is pointed slightly off to the side of the M80 so the flash would not white out the video. There is no bait here, which showed me how important trigger speed really is.

Here is a pic of the set-up. The M80 takes a pic before it starts video and this is one of those pics. You can see the camera's red flash on the edge of the woods.

Here are videos of how it works good.

The Moutrie Outfitter 5.0 missed alot of deer, you can look through the rest of the videos in that photobucket album and see for yourself. The M80 has a somewhat slow trigger too.

Just thought this was interesting

That picture first before the video is backward thinking in my opinion. I have a ton of video clips with nothing in them, but stills of the animals that fired the camera to start.

Can't explain the lack of sensing the animal other than maybe a battery issue with the outfitter cam. It should have picked them up.

I just put new batteries in it, read-out said battery life at 94 percent.

The camera readout will show different for different types of batteries is what I have read. Those on differnent camera forums say it is a good idea to check each individual battery before using them. One bad battery can cause problems. Most times it is with the motion sensor firing or not.

We have 2 Moultries a IR 65 and a 55. I find both are realllllly slow on trigger. Our 55 also is CLEARLY missing things. I'm hoping to do a similar experiment during winter bow to see if I can figure out if it's a setting issue or battery issue or just the camera.

I have had deer under my stand right in front of my camera and watched them for 30 mins. Not one photo. This is with a WI 5.0. Just because you have no photos doesn't mean the deer weren't there.

Well I wanted to get the M80 for just that reason. But thanx for the post. I see now they don't always get a photo either.

I guess the only sure fire way to know if they were there is to be there.
