I'm looking to purchase a crossbow with an overall length for the entire xbow of 24.9 inches.

NJ hunting regulations say the stock of a crossbow for hunting can be no less than 25 inches. Is that the entire underbelly of the crossbow or the actual stock/butt of the xbow? That would be a pretty long stock if they meant the latter so I'm confused at what the law is referring to as the "stock".

It's such a cool crossbow and I would like to own it for backyard target practice and not necessarily to hunt...but maybe to hunt if allowed.

My specific question is it illegal to OWN a crossbow with a total length of 24.9 inches in NJ?

Sorry for posting this in the main forum. the crossbow forum doesn't seem to get much traffic.
Thanks

Best to call the fish and wildlife. Better to have the right info than find out the hard way. I'll probably be looking at a crossbow in the next year or two myself.
