Turkey lifestyles come under scrutiny
Friday, October 14, 2005
For the Star-Ledger
Biologists from six states, including New Jersey, are compiling a detailed analysis of wild turkey life and death. The result of all the studying could be more opportunities for turkey hunters.

Wildlife agencies in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York are planning to offer rewards to spring gobbler hunters lucky enough to bag turkeys wearing special metal tags. The reward-producing bands will be applied to half of the tagged 300 turkeys about to be released in the three states. The other 150 birds will have bands that won't result in rewards, but biologists are hoping hunters report them anyway.
