Wild turkey causes nuisance in Bergen County town

TENAFLY -- A wild turkey has turned the tables on residents here.

The bird has chased a mail carrier and pecked the tires of his truck and caused residents in Tenafly's Hillside Avenue to flee for safety.

Gary Zamchick said the bird chased him halfway down the block when he tried to put up a garage sale sign. Zamchick said the turkey "looked like the Road Runner."

The Tenafly Nature Center said it believes people have been feeding the turkey, making it associate people with food.

Residents are advised to clap, stomp and yell to scare the bird away.

Even better---I heard of a NUN getting attacked!

It was a couple of years ago at Mt. St. Mary's in Watchung (Catholic Girls H.S.). It's right on the hill by the Watchung Reservation (about 3000 acres).

My neighbor's daughter was a student there, and she said a nun came out of a door and it slammed behind her. The tom went NUTS at the noise, and went after her with his beak and spurs.[eek]

I've always wondered if he thought she was giant penguin going after his hens?? [rofl][confused]
