Judging by the radar, the heavier bands of rain should move away shortly. Im planning on still-hunting for a little while after it lets up. If the afternoon showers are minimal, I might take a stand.

If its steady rain though, theres other things I can do. I dont want to shoot one and lose it to the rain.[down]

Good luck to anyone thats going/gone out.[up][up]

Just got my first ever pheasant today at Collier's Mills! I also happened to run into DeanZ from the board. He was a great guy and helped me find my bird after the shot. good day!

There ya go Mack, chalk up them points!

Nice looking hen. Looks like a cross breed because of the dark head.

Word of caution though. It can become very addicting. Some people think I am crazy when I say this, but I like bird hunting more than deer hunting.

Carlo, Congrats on the pheasant![up][up]

I didnt see anything, not even a squirell. I tried the zone 8 portion of Black River. Tried "running and gunning" (still hunt to a spot that looks good, but try to sound like a deer rather than a person sneaking along, then sit down and call for a few minutes, wait an hour and move to a new spot) That has worked well for me in the past, but the wind didnt cooperate with me today. Kept changing directions.

Oh well, it was still more fun than doing most anything else.:)

Congrats Carlo! Nice Hen it does look like a hybrid of some sort. they tend to mix the breeds of birds. One guy got one on opening Day it was a [no swearing please] bird a big one not tail feather no ring around it's neck and it was very large. Must have been a mixed breed. When you going to come up for some more. Thanks Giving is usualy pretty good. I am going ti another spot up here called Whittingham you are more then welcome to come.

Your nuts. On a pheasant stocking day!
How the hell do I know what days are pheasant stocking days?[confused]

Do pheasants have antlers? NO! Then I couldnt care less about those silly birds.:D Do they even stock that side with pheasants? [confused] Theres hardly any fields....its mostly swamp. There were only two other trucks there anyway. I figured they were also bowhunting. Maybe they were Pheasant hunters????

I know, I was being sarcastic. As in I dont care when they stock them, so I dont read the regs about them.

If there had been half a million cars parked there, I would have KNOWN it was stocked with pheasant. :D

Judging by the fact the woods weren't glowing with orange, bustling with whistles, yells, gunshots and dog bells, Im guessing they dont stock that side.:D Such a crazy sport!

I stayed on stand till 11 AM and saw no deer. I did watch a flock of turkeys regroup after I bumped them off there roost.
In the PM I hunted Zone 13 and saw 12 Doe , 7 of which came within 5-6 yards of my decoy. They where not spooked but where very alert. It was cool watching the lead doe circle that decoy 3 times.
I decided not to shoot a doe cause its a 300+ yard drag all up hill and I was by myself.
I was very surpised no Bucks where fo;;owing the Does. Whats up with that???

I hunted yesterday from 10 till 1 - nothing

today from 9:30 till 1 - not a deer to warm.

big 9 point was out in the field at 4:40 last night. Came to with in 40 yards of my buddy who was in the woods but could not gethim closer.

Tonight - the area monarch - 12 point that will dress 200 plus lbs came in the same field - tio within 45 yards of my buddy - no shot - although he nearly shook out of the tree.

Needless to say he will be moving closer to the edge of the field tomorrow evening. And I cant get out till Friday morning. Will be a long 3 days!!!11
