From the Daily Record

This time, numbers give teeth to bear hunt's vocal supporters

They will be screaming and yelling at one another in a couple of weeks, facing off in the woods at the start of a bear hunt, both sides telling us that their arguments are all about numbers and science.

Hunters and animal rights groups use numbers to support their side of the debate. Both sides talk about science. That is not what they are really talking about. That is not why they will be calling each other names early next month on the first day of the bear hunt.

The real issue has always been about who gets to control hunting in the state of New Jersey.

This hits at one of my concerns during this bear hunt debate and that is our right to hunt a game animal that have a sufficient/self sustaining population. A natural resource that we as hunters utilize and share with other members of society - the comments about trophy hunts are ridiculous and just good sound bites for the antis. The focus on pubic safety is a good point in this debate but it gets to much focus in my opinion - hunting is not about public safety. What the anti's are trying to take away, a little at a time, is our right to hunt period and that is what we need to be focused on defend/protecting.

On the main daily record home page there is a poll asking if your agree with the bear hunt. We're getting beat pretty good. click on the link and vote.
You know an e-mail was sent to all the anti's telling them to vote against the hunt on this poll.... Thats just how they work... Then everyday people see that and think wow the people really don't want a hunt!! Everyone should go there and vote just to piss the antis off!!!
The Daily Record is a total animal friendly paper and I wouldn't be suprised if the voting is fudged...[down]

Online polls are a total joke. I installed and administered several poll applications and none of them prevent vote spamming or other types of manipulation. In the end, the admin can insert their own numbers anyway.

On top of that is the absence of any kind of sampling control. The stay at home anti's are busy foaming at the mouth and voting their little angry heads off, while we're too busy being outdoors :D
