I live just outside of Mullica Hill, on the edge of Harrison twsp, and didn't hear anything about it. This might answer another question though...don't know how long the pig was loose, but last fall there were two reported bear sightings in the Monroeville area. It's pretty populated area there, so if a bear was roaming those fields and orchards, I would think there would be alot more than two. No big woods there, just very small woodlots, fields and a few orchards...hard for a bear not to be seen by many.

I couldn't find a police report or newspaper article about it. I believe the animal was loose only recently. Less than a week perhaps. Apparently the animal was a threat to the neighbors and dangerous. I suppose the easist way the police could end it was by shooting him. They say it was a male. I'm going to try and find the weight. The wooded area where I'm at is pretty thick, so I suppose anything can be living in there.

I'm bowhunting usually with my boys. Do you think I should carry some pepper spray for a bear? One arrow is not going to take down a charging bear or a boar. At least not immediately.

Stronski - call me a wimp... but I carry one of those little air horns. You know... the kind guys sound off at football games?

I figure... the bear will get a warning sound... but he starts climbing my tree... then he'll unfortunately get a broad head.

I feel bad hurting the bear... but my well being is much more important.

The good thing about Drags air horn is after he blows it I know where to go look for whats left of him after the bear is done eating him and his candy [no swearing please] horn!

The bear pepper spray that is sold in the large canisters that spray 20 or 30 feet is illegal in NJ. I looked into it a few years back and you cannot possess a canister of pepper spray that large. Are the weapons laws in NJ messed up or what?

.75 ounce is the largest pepper spray allowed in NJ. Just enough to piss a bear off.

Remember, the weapons laws in NJ are designed to create a society of victims. I choose not to be a victim simply because some idiot legislator thinks I should be.

I read somewhere the pepper spray used on bears is more potent than the kind used on humans. I've heard the human stuff will just piss them off.

That's what I was told too.

Do you know what else is illegal in NJ, stun guns!! So we can't carry a firearm because they cause crime (or so I was told once by an extremely intelligent politician[mad]) but we can't even carry (or possess) a non-lethal means to defend ourselves. I'm going to lobby to rename our state Nazi Jersey.[mad]

That's what I was writing about. Not the little canister that looks like a breath spray can.

I don't have a firearms permit. I like to hunt bow but you can't carry both with you. Especially a handgun in the woods. Legally that is.

What is amazing is how long it took to get HR-218 passed. Talk about common sense.

We need a CCW law passed for for everyone now. Wait, don't we have one already called the Constitution?

I agree, everyone who is of sound mind, no criminal record and can qualify with a handgun once maybe twice a year same course as we do should be able to defend themselves and a 3rd party, and I do think it's in the Constitution.

Before HR-218 was passed, if I went into NYC I would always stop at the HOUSE, and check in my off duty and each time they would say keep it on me, I checked it in cause of NYC laws, but now I don't bother.
