The state Fish and Game Council unanimously approved a hunt yesterday to counter New Jersey's growing black bear population.
However, under a state Supreme Court ruling issued last year, the hunt cannot move forward until the council and Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bradley Campbell adopt a bear management policy that outlines the state's long-term plans for controlling the bruins.
