So where do we stand on this??

* * S P R E A D T H E M E S S A G E : S O P A S T R I K E * *
On January 18, will NJ Hunter will join Wikipedia, Reddit, Twitter, BoingBoing, MoveOn.org, The Free Software Foundation, and tens of thousands of other websites around the Internet in going dark to oppose SOPA and PIPA, the looming US legislation that would create an impossible Internet censorship regime and export it to the rest of the world?

In a post-SOPA world, out-links from NJ Hunter to any other website would be prohibited unless I was completely, 100% positive that there was no copyright infringing content on those websites. This means no more linking to YouTube, Twitter, TVPC, Wordpress, Blogger, or any other user-content generated website -- including your personal blog -- lest Kris will personally face the pain of being shut down, his finances frozen, the newjerseyhunter.com domain confiscated, having his IP address blacklisted, and eventually -- who knows -- probably being put into a cage for the protection of there rest of society.

In other words, if SOPA passes, say goodbye to our little community here at New Jersey Hunter. This website would go dark for good.

Such a bleak future is corporatism at its worst, and is what many have warned us against: Big Business getting into bed with Big Government to force submission to their goal of controlling every last aspect of our lives, including what we are able to read and speak here on this last bastion of freedom - the Internet.

The beauty of the internet is our ability to share with one another in an unmediated way. The forums of the New Jersey Hunter bring people together from all over the world to share, to trade ideas, to coordinate, to collaborate. You all know how powerful we become when we are able to work together in this way. In other words, the beauty of the internet is freedom. Is it any wonder that The Powers That Be want to put an end to it?

The time to make the stand is now. Please help spread the word about the SOPA Strike. Encourage other websites you frequent to participate in the strike. And by all means, call and write your representatives to let them know where you stand on the issue of Internet censorship.

This must not stand. The future is in your hands.

Antis could post illegal links to downloads or copyright photos and NJH would be shut down

I am sure that there will be some hunters ect that will kindly return the favor as well. works both ways, Maybe this will buy some time for us as members of this site to come up with something to protect our forum.

It began as a well intentioned bill that was, unfortunately, fatally flawed. The two Congressmen that posted it removed their support for it today, effectively killing it altogether. We'll have to see what they come up with next. I'm all for protecting the copyrights of artists, but this could have been a disaster for the internet as we know it today. When far left and far right activists (and everyone in the middle) are screaming "kill the bill" you know something isn't right...
