Ok, I've heard about rubs, but never seen one in my life. On the way out to put my camera back up I spotted this tree 125 yards down wind from my stand.

I think this is a rub? Let me know if I'm correct.

Hey Drome, You have to take me to this spot so I can check it out better. What you have there is a very nasty dominant buck, when they rub this early on Cedars, or any type of pines is to get the sap on their Antlers it makes their head gear sticky, and they are able to make their dominant smell more prominent any were else he rubs on his domain. I you look closely around the area I'm sure you are going to find more of them. Usually is a semi straight line, usually heading to their bedding area. Don't mess up the area to much, this is a good time to whack him, In a couple of weeks he is going to widen his territory, and he is going to be a little harder to find in just one area, in this case the core area he is using right now. Good luck hope you nail him Tony

Should I try a call or some scents? Or just sit and hope he comes back for some more of the molasses corn?
Hey Drome,

While I'm not expert at it, I would tend to think that some soft buck grunts, not too deep. More of a younger buck grunt would bring him in. If he's a dominant buck, he'll be looking to push his weight around and kick any other bucks out.

Deer's have a down fall, they are very curious animals by nature. I would try some type of dominant buck lure, and put it around or near the rub line. One old trick that always works for me is, keep your eyes open for a road kill of a buck, get out and take the glands from the rear legs. Make sure you have surgical gloves on, place them is a zip lock bag, add some commercial buck urine and put the whole gizmo in your Frig. Next hunting trip hang the glands near your tree stand, again make sure you don't contaminate the glands use SURGICAL GLOVES. When you leave put them back in the zip bag. Make sure you keep them in the refrigerator, they will be good for a few weeks. Tony

If I saw a buck on the side of the road, I'd probably keep more than the glands!! Plus I wouldnt even know where the glands were located.

That will definitely get me divorced in a about 5 seconds flat.

Thanks for the info, now I have to buy an extra fridge and hide it in my workshop!!
