Would it be ok to use a rifle scope on a shotgun? Or is there really no difference.

If it's a magnum caliber type of scope it should hold up to the recoil, but the eye relief may not be adequate.

The only real difference is eye relief. Shotgun scopes have a longer one to protect from slug gun recoil.

You also have the possibility of bottoming out the elevation.

I have 4 shotguns with scopes, every one of them has a rifle scope, never had an issue.
