I got some birthday money to spend, and I'm thinking about getting a headlamp.

Any brands to stay away from? Any recommendations on good inexpensive ones?

Also, do any of you use the lights that are supposed to illuminate blood trails? Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Any recommendations?
I would be looking for white LED's good for picking up blood, last a long time.
Brands? Never heard anyone bitch about Princton tech or Petzel head lamps.

I would get one with LED's. The LED's are bright and they last forever. I got one of those ones with the green light that clip on to your hat. I paid $7 for it last year at Harry's. My only complaint about it is that twice I killed the batteries because I left it in my pack and it must have turned on by mistake (good thing I always carry spare batteries). I just started taking it out of my pack when I put it away and I haven't had a problem since.

i've had a couple of petzel through the years, with no complaints. tried my luck buying one of visor-clip-ons from Cabelas bargain bin. not as bright, but worth the 5 bucks for sure. are there any real differences between petzels & other LED lamps besides price?

bit off topic, but might be an investment that pays off for a long time: if you've not used/seen a SureFire tactical light, then you're missing out. these things (and similiar products) are incredibly bright and have served me well in the woods as well as being the first 'shot' fired should an undesireable ever enter my home at night. they'll blind temporaily if flashed in the face. lights up dark woods like the sun...

If your just looking for a headlamp type, just go to any home depot or walmart and get a cheap energizer for 12 bucks. Bright and cheap, I have 3 that I keep in different places and their 4 yrs old and still ticking. I use them for everything, including work. They have 3 brightness settings and a red beam.

i have a streamlight.Ira great. For about $40 you get 3 colors green red and white, he red is great for the morining. You can drop it a hundred times and it will still turn on!

The ccyclops from cabelas is a better fishing light. If you drop it one its gone. Also the clips are very cheap, break easy!
