Good question. ;)

They'll probably tell you that the number of stamps is down therefore the revenue is down, that means less $$, there are less workers to stock etc etc etc.

There is always some reason (excuse).

40 bucks is a lot to spend on only two birds a day.
A lot of people don't even get two birds a day. Think how they feel. I don't have a problem with the limit, just the lack of birds put out to hunt.
Last year was a good year. The year before was a terrible year and that's the year they sold 10,000 pheasants to Pa. State took a lot of heat that year on their stocking program.
Maybe a bunch of emails to F&G this year about the quality of the stocking program will help for next year. Who knows. [confused]

More work, more $$, they're broke. ??????????
Bingo.....THIS IS A FACT BOYS!
then were did my $40 stamp go?
Ask Mr.Campbell... Some of it may be in Corzine's campaign war chest. Some may be in the DNC slush fund. The only place it isnt is Fish & Game.

Wake up all you hunters with your head in the sand. I have posted at least 4 times on thios issue. Not only your 40 dollars for a stamp...What about the hundreds of thousands of dollars on permits for deer hunting?

I give up trying to tell you guys that we need to unite and stop having money fleeced from us each and every year![mad] ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!![mad][down][mad][down]

I have seen very few birds out there. Opening day in the spot I go is usualy crazy with shots. This opener I was lucky to hear 5 shots in the whole area. That is crazy $40 a stamp and no birds. I have hunted Thanksgiving, Opening Day, Last Saturday and have 2 birds to show for it and I usualy have 2 a day. They need to kick it up a bit and throw some birds out there for us.

This may well be my last year hunting state lands on stocking days. I'm getting a bit concerned about the number of people one has to deal with on stocking days.
I may buy the stamp next year as the $40 doesn't bother me and limit myself to hunting on non stocking days. So far this year I've done quite well on those days and didn't have to deal with the people.

Yesterday at FB there was only 1 other guy where I was hunting and he was leaving as I arrived at 8:30. Said he didn't see any. An hour and 15 minutes later I had 2 and had put up another 1.

Last Wed and Fri was the same thing. A couple of hours and 2 birds each day.
So far this year I've taken 13 birds at FB. I don't hunt Sats and holidays. Out of the 13, 8 were taken on non stocking days. I might be on to something here.;)

Sure you are TJC!! last year I did not have a dog and I hunted late on stocking days or on nonstocking days and had 13 birds for the year!! And before you boys start no me;)[smirk]:D I did not shoot any on the ground or from a tree or off someone's dog!:D This year is the first season for my Vizsla pup and so I have only 4 but I did put a few more than that up. But if he didn't point it I didn't shoot it.

GB,
The hunting and fun will only get better as the dog ages.[up]
I was at FB this year, end of last season, in Jan and got birds down near the swamp/river. Didn't get 2 all the time, in fact didn't get birds every time then. But I did get some with the dog's help. And there was noone around.;)

I don't hunt small game on public land anymore. I had 4 pellets hit my jacket in assunpink 3years ago and have had enough. I pony up $350 each year and it buys me three good hunts on a preserve. I work the dog on sundays on the public lands after they stock. They should sell permits, not stamps. The amount of guys who walk and shoot birds on the ground got me down. The pellets were the nail in the coffin.

I did interviews this year at several southern NJ WMA. My summary was these areas are hunted very hard and well over carring capacity (hunters) for the area. Others states have a sign in board on their WMA and SGL which I think is a good and safe method. At Millville for instances I counted 42 trucks. I don't hunt when it's like that, not so much for my safety, but the dogs.

I asked one hunter what he thoughts were, he said "I can't stand it this place is packed". He was one of the last trucks there and he still went out. I drove to another WMA that is stocked, smaller area with not as many birds, no hunters. Went there shot two and gone in under 45 minutes.

I gained alot of information for my article for "Fishing and Hunting News"
