Well I'm off to the Salmon River in Pulaski, NY tonight. I got the green light from the Mrs. so I'm taking it and running. I've been hearing and reading that the fishing has been absolutely awesome for several weeks now. Can't wait to get there!:D

WHAT PART OF THE RIVER ARE YOU PLANNING ON FISHING?
Racked Out,

I always start of in the area between the Black Hole and the Little Black Hole, just above the DSR. I know that section of river very well. I also like the Ballpark Area. If these areas aren't producing, or they become overcrowded which is often the case, I will walk and fish areas of the river away from the primary access points to the river. It's nice to have some elbow room. Finding fish shouldn't be a problem, it's finding solitude and avoiding the circuses at the lage pools.
Good luck Andy...I have heard the salmon are packed in the rivers! The rains up there really helped.

Hope its not too crowded...:D

good luck. i would love to get up there one year to try them out.

Thanks, JJoe. They released water from the dam starting midnight last night, which will bring up the water significantly, and they are dropping the flow midnight tonight. The increased flow will bring in even more fish. It may be bank to bank fish Sat. and Sun. I've seen this happen before. You could literally cross the river walking on the backs of fish.

good luck. i would love to get up there one year to try them out.
Woj, if you ever get a chance, do it. I recommend going with someone who knows what they are doing, or hire a guide. It's such a rush, 20 - 30+ lb. fish in a river going crazy on the end of your line. YeeHaw!!:D

Maybe we can plan a NJH trip next year. It's a blast. What do you think?
IT'S A REAL PLEASURE AFTER THE CROWDS LEAVE AFTER THE FIRST COULPE OF HOURS THE FISH SETTLE DOWN AND STAY IN THE HOLES. YOU WILL HAVE LESS THAN HALF THE PEOPLE THERE THEN YOU CAN ENJOY! GOOD LUCK.

[confused]WHO'S BEEN UP TO PULASKI OR OSWEGO FOR SALMON SO FAR THIS SEASON AND HOW WAS IT?
So far the fishing has been very good. I was up at the end of September and it was excellent. I just spoke to someone last night who came back yesterday and he said there were fish everywhere. Just watch the water levels, high water flow should be the only thing stopping you from catching fish.
fished the salmon river last weekend, sept 13-16, water was super high, 2000 cfs. fish were still everywhere, just hard to land. fished the fly section all weekend,, lots of hook ups but only saw about 5 fish landed in three days. still alot of fun, was completely overmatched with my 8 weight, cant wait to do it again
What flies do you use for salmon????? What weight flyrod & line. I have a 9ft 9 weight I use in salt water I think I would also double for salmon.
230

That rod would be fine.

Ideally the rod would be a little more sensative than a saltrod though.

You would also need a floating running line.

Bead head estaz flies are ideal for the Salmon.
Hey anyone know about the few anglers that drowned up in Pulaski this season:( Heard they were running the water at high levels cause of all the rain. Real shame hearing about that. Always need to use caution when fishing either Salmon or Oswego Rivers ;)
That is a shame to hear.
10-3-05 Drowning Update

On 9/30/05, members of the Oswego County Sheriff's Office investigated a drowning accident that occurred on the Salmon River in the Town of Richland at approximately 2:30 p.m. Two fishermen were salmon fishing at the Black Hole approximately 15 feet off shore and were swept downstream by the current. Joseph B. Armstrong, 25, of Ft. Drum, NY, was a victim in this incident and was pronounced dead at the scene. The surviving fisherman who was rescued from the water has been identified as Daryl J. Eldred, 29, of Coxsackie, NY.

To the family of Joseph B. Armstrong, we are truly sorry for your loss here at Yankee Fly & Tackle Shop. Our hearts and prayers go out to you.
I did it for the first time this past weekend. I will tell you what i dont think i will trout fish ever again. I mean talk about a rush. The skill that is involved and the fight those fish put up is amazing. I am def hooked. I used a fly rod and that makes the fight that much better. It was a awesome experience and i am hooked for life...
