Hi all!

I have been out the past 3 days with no luck. This is my first time hunting and I have been on heavily wooded public land. The problem with this is to get to the areas that I scouted and look good I have to walk on branches twigs and fallen leaves. I make so much noise that I can't see how any deer would come within 500 yards of me. I am wondering if there are any open fields open to public hunting?

Let me know.

Thanks!

Also check Hacklebarney, very close to you and good deer population. They have a couple of open fields.
For bow season, I prefer hunting heavy cover over trails, though. That way you know more precisely where the deer will be and can set up accordingly. It's frustrating having deer walking by you at 50-60 yards.

I like the sound of this Hacklebarney. I have found its website and location, but does anyone have more information/ opinions about the fields there?

I am gonna make a trip tomorrow during the day to scout a little, but i would like to hear from others first. Thanks!

and for the pm you should be in your stand by 1pm
most of the am movement i see comes around 7-8am and the pm 4-5 pm and i hunt all public land when the rut heats up it pays to sit all day as the bucks are chaseing does and checking there scrapes
