CAMDEN — A Palmyra man has been sentenced to 60 months in federal prison for illegally selling firearms and crack cocaine in parking lots of southern New Jersey shopping malls.

Twenty-six-year-old Joseph Adams pleaded guilty in February to charges that he sold five handguns and a rifle to a person who was cooperating with law enforcement. Adams also admitted he sold crack cocaine to the same individual on two occasions in 2007.

U.S. District Judge Robert B. Kugler also ordered Adams to serve five years of supervised release on completion of his prison term.

Thank God the five handguns were retrievable...I assume. I think a person who sells any firearm illegally should receive the same sentence handed down to any of his "customers" who use it during the course of a crime, in addition to their own punishments. F'em.

The only consolation here is that there's NO PAROLE in the federal prison system. Not nearly enough time though, considering the magnitude of the offense (IMHO). [wallmad]

Theoretically, you could get more time for transporting your legally owned shotgun home from a day afield if you failed to secure the weapon in a manner as described in N.J.S. 2C:39-6g (which would make you guilty of a 3rd degree crime for a violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-5) [eek]

I am no lawyer but, it seems like the prosecuter has fallen down on this. If it can be proven that other guns he sold were used in crimes( which I think is probably the case)then he should be held responsible for that and have time tacked on his sentance.
