Great tips! I especially like the one about playing dead with Black bears. Gee, don't black bears eat dead things?
Who wrote that, Elmer Fudd?

Everyone is afraid to say the magic words: Let's go Bear Hunting.

Maybe one day before I die, we'll read articles in national magazines on "Bear Stew: MMM MMM Good!" or "Succesful Hunters Share Bounty with Community".

Never happen.
So if I'm walking through the woods and I come across a bear I should first walk backwards and not do my best black bear impressions...Then if the bear starts to follow me I should bang pots and pans together (good thing I never leave home without them!) and yell but not in a high pitched scream! If that doesn't work I should use my pepper spray but only within 40 feet... After that doesn't work I should tuck and roll pretending I am dead even though he was just looking at me standing and knows I'm not dead? Maybe he will think I had a sudden heart attack and feel bad for me??? I should lay still for as long as possible (dead people don't move much and if the sudden death thing has him fooled he is bound to catch on if I start squirming around).... Now if he starts chewing on my leg or other body part (as was pointed out earlier bears EAT DEAD THINGS!) should I still pretend I'm dead or is it time to start fighting for my life before I'm not pretending anymore???? I'll have to do some more homework on this topic....I don't want to mess things up and put myself in any unnecessary danger!

a guy i work with who happens to be a dwarf went backpacking in montana and all the guides told people if they encounter a bear that they should raise there arms and attempt to make themselves look larger then what they actually are - he said he looked at the guide and was like WHAT ABOUT ME?

Yeah, at that point, I think you want to just tuck into a ball, and make yourself look like the smallest meal there. They will probably eat the guide or one of your friends in this case, leaving you to escape.;):D
