Hi Everyone,

I am a newbie and confused on two issues. I just received my pistol permit a few weeks ago and have just purchased my first handgun and interested in a rifle.

First....Are 22cal lever action rifles included in the 15 round mag restriction. Example: one that holds 15 rounds of LR can hold 20 or so long and more of short. Does this make it illegal to own?

Second...Can ammo be bought from out of state supply store and mailed to your home or do you need to ship to FFL agent? Looking for good prices on ammo.

Lever Actions are OK. Autoloading rimfires, on the other hand, such as the Marlin Model 60 before they modified it, have the magazine restriction.

Many (most) of us here buy ammo from the out-of-state places to save money. However, some of the places are re-examining their policies concerning shipping to NJ.

A fixed tubular magazine in a lever action 22 has an exemption(I believe). A 50 round mag on any gun bolt action or autoloader would be illegal.

I buy my ammo online. Generally at Natchez.

Magazine restrictions only apply to semi-automatic rifles .... not lever actions or bolt actions.

Definitions subchapter of NJ Title 13 Chapter 54 states "Large capacity ammunition magazine means a box, drum, tube or other container, which is capable of holding more than 15 rounds of ammunition to be fed continuously and directly
therefrom into a semi-automatic firearm ... "

And semi-auto shotguns, too! Magazine restricted to 6 shells.
