I had one, now 2 does coming to a bait with what looks like ulcers on their skin. 4-5 ulcers on each deer. At first I thought they were tuffs of hair, but I have since seen them in person, and they are some kind of skin problem.

Questions

Will this taint the meat
Can I catch it [sad]Below is a pix of one of them.

Should I just whack them first to get them out of the herd before it spreads

Infection from cuts? If they are all high on her back & neck, cause maybe from slipping under barbwire or Tick bites

That's a thought. I had a dog that got large welts from any tick bite he got. His fur covered it up, but on the early winter coat of a deer they might look like this.

good idea bhc...the fish and game should be able to tell you with some certainty what they are though they might want/need to examine the deer more closely.

Nope, tell them, and Campbell is liable to quarantine all the deer in S. Jersey.

It's actually fairly common. I've seen some pretty weird groths. Usually they are only skin deep. If you are really concerned have a biologist look at it after it's dead.
