Morris mom triggers anger for her stand on gun book
By Abbott Koloff, Daily Record

She is not what some people conjured in their minds. She has nothing against people owning guns. Some of her relatives, including a brother, are police officers. She voted for George W. Bush in the last presidential election. Just one imaginary image, among the many appearing on the Internet this past week, seemed to fit.

I agree with that article, many people are too quick to judge. Claiming you are a bleeding heart liberal because of ONE stance you have. For the most part, many of my views are conservative right wing. However, there are issues, in which I stand in gray areas, or on the left. You can not limit yourself to one side.

On this matter however, I would have to disagree with Mrs. Barroso. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with introducing or "exposing" children to guns, as long as they are taught to respect firearms, and to handle them with care and taught firearms safety. Reading a book about gun-collecting is NOT going to make you a criminal.

If I could, I would like to ask Mrs. Barroso this;

Your son is obviously showing an interest in firearms by checking out this book. Will you allow him the opportunity to learn more about his interest?

Well, I disagree with her on this one. I think she is wrong to be so vocal and such an alarmist about a gun collecting book. Why is it different from a stamp collecting, or coin collecting book? There is nothing violent about collecting guns, in fact, you could argue that collecting butterflies is more violent because you are taking and killing a living thing. I think she should be branded as she has been because her objections to this book being in the library are based on false, heretical and inflamatory stereotypes of interest in firearms.

My ten year old brings home books on military stuff all the time, including guns of the military, from school. Is that the next to go? I would much rather have him playing Army than some of those video games such as the car-jacking or cop killing ones.

My gosh, they teach kids about using condoms at younger ages than 10, why can't they read about rare guns? Does this woman want all books removed with sexual inuendos, or is it just gun she is so paranoid about? Seems like she chooses her 'causes' very carefully to fuel political correctness and anti-gun attitude that grows each day.

I have many guns in my house. In fact I couldn't tell you how many but all are locked up in one of my many safes except for the ones I'm carrying. I have 3 boys from 7-10. They are not locked up because I'm worried about MY boys getting access to them, as they have been in contact with firearms sisnce they could walk. They are locked up so thier friends who have not been exposed to firearms (like this boy)cannot display their curiosity. These are the children I worry about my sons being around.

I'm waiting to see how this censorship situation pans out. I'll be donating many educational gun related books to this library if this parent does not return it. Who's with me?

The problem I have with her actions: Okay, if she does not want her child to read about gun collections... then thats okay. However, she is NOT returning the book for other parents to decide.

The problem I have with her words: She does not want kids shooting up schools. Well...neither do I. However, those kids (school shooting pyschos) are just plain evil. You can look for answers by blaming the cops, blaming other kids that did not like them at schoool, blaming teachers, blaming George Bush (he gets blamed for just about everything theses days anyway, etc.... instead of blaming the pyscho shooter kid.

Guns do not shoot people. People shoot people.

Matty: there is nothing wrong with taking a hard stance on a position. Both the Dems and GOP want everyone to take a "bi-partisan" position on everything. BS. No way.

Bill Clinton was in the center (just a little left). George Bush is in the center (just a little (very little) to the right.

Its in the best interest of both Dems & GOP for everyone to take gray positions. The Dems & GOP cut deals with eachother all the time in the name of "bi-partisan".

Not returning the book is almost parallel to burning books so people can not read opinions, ideas or beliefs other people may have. She is ignorant, definitely not open minded and to top off here rant, I'll take odds she doesn't even make it to her polling place to vote when the time comes.

Now wait one gosh darn minute, let's go there and get all the books on automobiles, yes cars, trucks, motorcycles etc. and get rid of them. let's face it, autos account for more deaths than guns and we should get rid of them first.

maybe I need to take my medication.lol
